Social Media Specialist - Developer Relations

Job Brief:

The Developer Relations team is seeking a social media specialist to represent in an ongoing online conversation with developers and folks who care about the technical aspects of online identity. This is a position for someone eager to grow developer-facing social channels, with a primary focus on Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.

We’re looking for a person who understands the unique characteristics of developer audiences. We want you to evolve the voice and amplify the presence of Okta Developers, and deliver insights from users and potential users who are implementing identity solutions. You'll work closely with a team of developer advocates who teach developers about our offerings with content – blog posts, videos, workshops, and conference talks – and share identity best practices in their programming language communities. Your strategy of tweets and social interaction will introduce and amplify the work of the advocacy team and our colleagues across the developer relations organization. We’ll rely on you to raise awareness, grow our audience, and report back to us.

Your writing is informed, inclusive, accessible, sometimes amusing, never condescending. Bonus points for a working familiarity with the fundamentals of modern software development. Past experience with developer communications or communities is also a strong plus.

We like writing and original visual content (images and animations) that inspires our audience to engage more deeply, to retweet and share. We value the range of activities that Twitter can enable – from live conference tweeting, to topical tweet-storms, to well-conceived scheduled Twitter events, like AMAs (ask me anything) and Q & A sessions. We’re on the lookout for new ideas.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Developer social channels and post regular updates, respond to developers engaging with the channel.
  • Define the vision and develop social media strategies for: Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook. Identify and assess new channels and ways to reach untapped audiences. Influence and actively contribute to the content strategy for our owned channels such as blog and YouTube.
  • Lead social campaigns to surface our content and drive engagement.
  • Develop compelling copy and creative content for social media accounts and use in internal and external materials and communications.
  • Monitor social media performance and track analytics to inform social strategy and optimize content engagement and reach.

Requirements:

  • Past professional experience with social tools and tactics for technical audiences.
  • A proven ability to design and execute a social media strategy that builds a brand voice that developers can relate to, and drives engagement and interaction.
  • Working familiarity with social media analytics. You’re comfortable reporting the numbers, designing social media experiments, testing new ideas, and measuring impact.
  • Knowledge of graphics tools for social sharing. You create compelling animated gifs, images, embeds, and memes and you understand how to use them effectively.
  • Past experience managing an editorial calendar for social content, while engaging appropriately and building a conversational flow for our channels.
  • This is an opportunity to help extend the global OktaDev brand on Twitter, and give us a more vocal presence in key conversations. So, in addition to tactical excellence and attention to detail, we are seeking a practitioner whose work can make an impact.

Work Samples:

  • Must be prepared to share at least 5 examples of short-form writing: These can be from your own website or portfolio, work you’ve done for others, or work from your own blog, twitter or other social media account, articles, podcasts, videos, design portfolios, etc. We will not consider applicants who do not provide varied examples of written work, including content written for Twitter.
  • Bonus points for sharing images and animations you’ve created for Twitter.
