Software Engineer

Brightcove manages and distributes over a hundred million videos and adds hundreds of thousands to that catalog every day. That's no surprise given the explosive growth of online video and video consumption in general. To sustain such growth Brightcove is investing in improvements in our media delivery platform, aiming to make it even more efficient, scalable, and reliable. In this context, we're looking for a talented Software Engineer to join our Delivery team.

The Delivery team is responsible for development and operation of a highly-scalable global cloud-based streaming platform. The team is globally-distributed and consists of engineers with diverse skill sets covering video and audio processing technology, cloud-based workflows and modern microservice design and deployment. This position reports into the Manager, Engineering in London.

Job Responsibilities:

• Maintain and build new features on top of our streaming and distribution services
• Lead the design of future versions of our streaming architecture
• Collaborate across Engineering groups
• Participate in strategic and collaborative sessions and meetings, while sharing expertise within and across teams
• Diagnose and resolve customer issues
• Attend and participate in relevant industrial and video developer community events
• Help define best practices and standards within the team and wider engineering organization and mentor other developers

Qualifications/Experience:

• 2+ years of experience in software engineering, preferably working with large scale systems
• Proficiency in at least one high level programming language such as Go, Java, Kotlin, Ruby, or NodeJS
• Experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS is desired)
• Experience designing and building scalable systems using microservices
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.
• Experience working with CDNs and edge platforms (Akamai, Fastly, CloudFront, etc.) is a plus
• Understanding of media processing workflows: ingest, mux / demux, transcoding, format conversions etc. is a plus
• Knowledge of HTTP streaming formats (HLS, DASH, Smooth) is a plus
