Sprout Social is looking to hire a Staff Accountant to the Finance team.

What you’ll do

  • Support Sprout Social’s month-end and quarter close processes through revenue reporting and evaluation for multiple legal entities, calculation of revenue accruals, customer credits, related journal entries, and account reconciliations
  • Properly apply and manage internal controls and prepare deliverables and support documentation for our internal and external audit teams
  • Closely partner with Deal Desk, the Billing Team, and other cross-functional teams to communicate revenue accounting guidance, policies and procedures

What you’ll bring

We are looking for an individual who is self-motivated with strong attention to details, proven ability to work independently, effective communication skills for efficient cross collaboration, and drive to take on new challenges. The minimum qualifications for this role include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent business degree
  • 0-2+ years of relevant experience in Accounting/Finance 

Preferred qualifications for this role include:

  • GL accounting experience including managing month-end close responsibilities through close management software (FloQast)
  • Experience reconciling accounts receivable or revenue for a SaaS organization
  • Experience with spreadsheet software (Excel), ERP systems (NetSuite), and Salesforce

How you’ll grow

Within 1 month, you’ll plant your roots, including:

  • Experiencing Sprout’s in-depth onboarding, covering everything from our company mission and values, hearing directly from executives and founders, to deep training on our products and the value that Sprout delivers to our customers
  • Making a plan with your manager to set initial priorities, aligning on expectations for your role, planting goalposts for your career, and learning about Sprout’s approach to scaling key business operations to support a high-growth NASDAQ publicly traded company

Within 3 months, you’ll start hitting your stride by:

  • Being proficient in using Sprout’s accounting system (NetSuite) to record journal entries, and retrieving data needed to review transactions and financial reporting
  • Learning and assisting in the review of customer contracts for proper revenue recognition in accordance with company policy and revenue recognition accounting standards
  • Playing a critical role in Sprout’s month-end close including preparing balance sheet reconciliations and reviewing financial system integrations (Recurly and Salesforce)
  • Building connections with members from other teams through active networking and community building

Within 6 months, you’ll be making a clear impact through:

  • Assisting and improving SOX compliance for order to cash and revenue accounting functions including participating in process walkthroughs and testing with internal audit team
  • Assisting with revenue team projects and process improvements
  • Having your first performance conversation with your manager, where you’ll discuss your accomplishments in your role and working together to build goals for your professional growth

Within 12 months, you’ll make this role your own by:

  • Preparing client support and communicate order to cash and revenue accounting processes to external Big 4 audit team for quarterly and annual review
  • Continuously evaluating and strengthening internal controls by implementing process and system improvements
  • Surprising us! You’ll use your unique ideas and abilities to change your team in beneficial ways that we haven’t even considered yet.

Of course what is outlined above is the ideal timeline, but things may shift based on business needs and other projects and tasks could be added at the discretion of your manager.

Whenever possible, Sprout wants to provide our team with the flexibility to work in the location that makes the most sense for them. Sprout maintains a remote workforce in many places in the United States. However, we are not set up in all states, so please look at the drop-down box in our application to see whether your state is listed. Few roles require an office setting. If your position requires a physical presence in a Sprout office, it will be evident in the job listing and your offer letter.

The base pay range for this role is $53,000.00 - $70,000.00 USD annually. Individual base pay is based on various factors, including relevant experience and skills, the responsibility of the role, and job duties/requirements. In addition to base pay, some Sales and Success roles can earn sales incentives. 

Sprout’s compensation ranges are intentionally broad to allow for our team members' growth within their role. These ranges were determined by a market-based compensation approach; we used data from trusted third-party compensation sources to set equitable, consistent and competitive ranges. We also evaluate compensation bi-annually, identify any changes in the market and make adjustments to our ranges and existing employee compensation as needed.

Base pay is only one element of an employee's total compensation at Sprout. Every Sprout team member has an opportunity to receive restricted stock units (RSUs) under Sprout’s equity plan. Employees (and their dependents) are covered by medical, dental, vision, basic life, accidental death, and dismemberment insurance, and Modern Health (a wellness benefit).  Employees are able to enroll in Sprout’s company’s 401k plan, in which Sprout will match 50% of your contributions up to 6% with a maximum contribution. Sprout offers “Flexible Paid Time Off” and ten paid holidays.
