This is a brand new position to help support a brand new division here at Wellmark. Wellmark is proud to continue to be a strong partner in our communities. Our Health Equity, Access, & Improvement division is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of ALL Iowans and South Dakotans, not just those who are members of Wellmark. This new division will work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders both within Wellmark and externally to energize Wellmark's on-going commitment to improve community health. This crucial addition to the team will assist leadership in their enhanced efforts to drive health care change and to address Iowa's and South Dakota's social determinants of health — the conditions in the places where people live, learn, work, and play that affect a wide range of health and quality-of-life risks and outcomes.
In this role you will serve as the main project resource and cross functional lead working with key internal and external stakeholders to proactively solve business problems using the analytics lifecycle across all domains. Work closely with cross-functional partners to drive successful data driven improvement recommendations from definition through completion, providing solutions and identifying risks. Plan and lead multi-domain, multi-phase business optimization efforts from definition to implementation; leveraging complex framework design to define and disaggregate problems; developing and testing hypotheses through use of deterministic and probabilistic modeling; managing cross-functional project team members’ capacity and deliverables; and communicating status updates, project results, insights, and recommendations to stakeholders at all levels of leadership.
Qualifications
Required:
For consideration, you must meet one of the following educational/technical requirements:

Master’s degree in quantitative discipline such as statistics, mathematics, finance, accounting, computer science, engineering, or economics, and 1 year of applicable work experience – OR
-
Bachelor’s degree in quantitative discipline such as statistics, mathematics, finance, accounting, computer science, engineering, or economics and 3 years applicable work experience – OR
-
7 years of direct and applicable work experience.
With specific experience in the following:
-
Fluency with at least one statistical programming software and language (e.g., R, SAS, Python, Java, etc.).

Demonstrated experience with advanced complex joins, inferential, statistical, supervised and/or unsupervised modeling, regression analysis, and data presentation.

Prior experience with data manipulation, hypothesis testing, root cause analysis, forecasting, or modeling, along with a thorough understanding of data warehousing concepts.

Experience with business intelligence, reporting, and analytics platforms such as MS Power BI and Tableau, with proven ability to mine and query data across structured and unstructured data sets, including large data sets and spreadsheets.

Highly effective analytical skills, business acumen, and demonstrated proficiency in distilling large amounts of information into the most relevant insights.

Critical thinking skills; demonstrated ability to review and synthesize business information for the purpose of deriving and delivering relevant insights and recommendations resulting in data enabled decisions.

Additional Information
a. Through demonstrated subject matter expertise and strong knowledge of the business, identify complex business problems through discovery sessions and stakeholder interactions. Utilize decision frameworks and consulting toolkit, understand the project objectives, and gather requirements to build a preliminary plan.
b. Interpret and analyze data using exploratory mathematical and statistical techniques based on the scientific method to draw conclusions and support recommendations made to stakeholders. Extract, analyze, and integrate data from several resources throughout Wellmark to efficiently and effectively show value of products, programs, and services to stakeholders.
c. Conduct sophisticated analyses leveraging predictive modeling, machine learning, simulation, optimization, and other techniques to deliver insights or develop analytical solutions to achieve business objectives.
d. Research and gather appropriate data from various sources. Source, extract, assemble, collate, and consolidate data into reusable data assets using complex joins.
e. Identify, evaluate, and select analytical methodologies appropriate to nature of the given business problem and data, and document selection criteria. Make selections based on a combination of business need, model performance, and statistical testing.
f. Interpret results, identify key findings, create categorical recommendations to quantify business value which will have enterprise-wide impacts.
g. Develop narratives to summarize and convey findings that drives stakeholders to action. Communicate purposely and effectively to a variety of audiences and make recommendations based on findings.
h. Profile and prepare data for analysis, including the creation of derived elements and macros for processing efficiencies.
i. Be a “go-to” person for analysis while being adept at quickly assessing the needs of multiple business partners with frequently ambiguous requirements.
j. Manage multiple projects simultaneously across multiple domains and resources. Support corporate process improvement initiatives, meeting aggressive timeframes. Ability to create, manage and deliver on project plans and roadmaps to ensure timeliness and on-time delivery of initiatives.
k. Lead and drive peer reviews, peer training, and development of other business analytics resources. Take responsibility for answering team member questions and coaching, training, and mentoring team members as needed.
l. Monitor and research healthcare industry and advanced analytical methodologies to evaluate and address current and emerging issues. Provide in-depth consultation and produce executive summaries that will indicate the pulse of the external environment.
m. Other duties as assigned.
