Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is a multi-program laboratory applying state of the art science and practical, high-value, cost-effective solutions to complex technical problems to protect the nation. Located at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Savannah River Site (SRS) in Aiken SC, the laboratory develops and deploys innovative technologies to address some of the nation’s environmental, energy, and national security challenges.
SRNL’s Global Security Directorate’s Cybersecurity and Threat Assessment Group is seeking a scientist with a health physicist background to join our team. As a scientist/health physicist, your primary responsibilities will include:
Develop and implement radiation safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Conduct assessments to identify radiation hazards and develop strategies for risk mitigation.
Perform routine inspections and surveys of radiation sources, equipment, and facilities.
Maintain accurate inventory of radioactive materials and track their usage, storage, and disposal.
Monitor and analyze radiation levels to ensure compliance with safety standards.
Provide technical guidance and support for staff regarding radiation protection practices.
Collaborate with other groups, laboratories, and sponsors to deliver radiation safety training programs.
Stay updated with current regulations and industry best practices in radiation safety.

Basic Education Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in health physics, science, nuclear engineering or related field. 8 years' experience working in a radiological facility or similar role.
Strong knowledge of radiation physics, principles of radiation protection, and relevant regulations and standards.
Proficiency in operating radiation monitoring equipment and analyzing data.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Detailed orientated with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in RDT&E programs.
Other Required Qualifications
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Master or PhD degree in health physics, science, nuclear engineering or related field. MS 6 years, PhD 4 years, experience working in a radiological facility or similar role.
Strong knowledge of radiation physics, principles of radiation protection, and relevant regulations and standards.
Proficiency in operating radiation monitoring equipment and analyzing data.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Detailed orientated with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in RDT&E programs.
Certification as a health physicist or eligibility for certification is preferred.
