About the Role:

Matterport is looking for a Staff Electrical Engineer to join our team. Our 3D scanning hardware we build is critical to our continued success. You will be responsible for architecting, designing and developing new and derivative cameras and 3D scanning products. This position requires system architecture and integration expertise as well as solid electrical design and engineering skills. You will work closely with cross functional teams, our partners and suppliers to deliver high quality products. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills and a love of electromechanical systems. You will be working with lasers, magnets and motors, can it get any better?

What you will do:

    • Drive Electronic architecture, product design, testing and evaluation for new cameras and subsystems
    • Responsible for design, analysis, documentation, and functional validation of electronic components and assemblies
    • Develop motion controls and oversee full system engineering from an electrical perspective, working closely with our ME team
    • Rapid prototyping to enable validated decision-making processes in a fast paced environment
    • Investigate, vendor liaison, study, and select critical components.
    • Analyze, validate, and characterize product designs
    • Determine performance characteristics and document engineering specification.
    • Participate in technical discussion and collaborate with the cross functional team during the product development phase
    • Support products from initial concept through manufacturing bring up and sustaining efforts

Who you are:

    • BS or MS in electrical engineering or related field
    • 7+ years of experience in consumer electronic, computing and professional hardware development
    • At your heart you are a maker, you love to create and problem solve
    • Demonstrated knowledge of low to high volume production and tooling requirements
    • Expert with Altium schematic design, as well as proficiency in simulation and data collection tools.
    • You are a self starter, driven to seek out new information and see it hasn’t been done as a challenge to do it.
    • Demonstrated experience with consumer electronics and working with overseas ODMs and CMs
    • Demonstrated experience working with industrial design to create user centered products with insane attention to detail and exceptional communication skills
    • Experience in designing motion control systems, Experience control systems, motors, encoders, and making things move
    • Proven ability in analyzing root cause, design of experiments, complex design debugging, and problem solving
    • Demonstrated ability directing and collaborating with leveraged development resources in US and globally
    • Proven ability to work independently with minimal guidance and ability in handling multiple tasks
    • Experience in camera development is a plus
    • Experience in robotics is a plus
    • Experience in any of following areas will be added advantage: Optics Design, EMI/EMC/ESD compliance, Firmware Programming C, C++, python or similar
    • Experience in hardware product development with an organization developing portable consumer devices is a plus
    • Expectation is at least 50% of work week in the Sunnyvale Office.

      The US base salary range for this full-time position is $156,500 to $219,100 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
