Staff Reactor Process Engineer


We are looking for a senior hands-on contributor to lead technology development with a focus on microwave plasma or thermal reactors processes. This will include creating a roadmap for chemical processes, gas phase reactions, gas/solid separations, and nano-engineered materials development for multiple applications. You will analyze data from analytical equipment and map it to the process performance. Process development will include gas-solid reactions to identify and optimize process knobs and design next generation equipment.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop chemical processes for materials to meet application, product, and customer requirements.
  • Identify equipment, assemble hardware, and operate systems for materials processing. Design equipment and work with outside vendors when commercial solutions do not exist.
  • Analyze materials and associated characterization data.
  • Work on a cross-functional team with an open mind to new ideas in a fast-paced startup company.
  • Demonstrate ability to perform advanced scientific problem solving and effectively communicate results.
  • Use scientific, mathematical, and engineering principles to solve problems and improve processes.
  • Designing, proposing, implementing, and reviewing plans to ensure company goals are achieved.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Advanced degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of industry experience if holding an advanced degree OR a minimum of 8 years of industry experience if holding a bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of 4 years hands on process engineering experience with thermal, plasma or microwave plasma reactors.
  • Hands-on experience in process integration to deliver commercial ready manufacturing process.
  • Statistical analysis experience to evaluate and validate process integration.
  • Proficiency in reviewing and analyzing large data sets through known correlation methods.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively to a variety of senior stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated and safety conscious.
  • Ability to work independently and to participate creatively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Competency to work on multiple projects independently and set priorities to meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with scaling up chemical processing into large commercial applications.
  • Carbon allotrope knowledge and exposure to relevant manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Atmospheric deposition process.

Physical Requirements:

  • This role will require long periods of standing in a laboratory environment.
  • The employee will be required to use his or her hands for lab instrument operation.
  • Must pass a respirator fitment test.
  • Required chem-/bio-safety training upon hiring.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and/or move objects up to 20 lbs.

The expected base salary range for this position is between $163,000 - $215,000. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise.

We generally do not negotiate on salary once we've made an offer. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise. New hires joining the company tend to be paid within the starting base pay range noted above, with opportunities to increase pay over time based on development of additional skills, competencies, and company-specific knowledge.

In addition to base pay this position is eligible for tier based bonus and equity, healthcare, dental, vision, corporate discounts, paid holidays, PTO and sick time, 401K, employee relocation plan (if applicable)
