They act as expert intermediaries, bridging the gap between researchers and the vast health system data landscape. ERDBs possess a unique blend of technical expertise, analytical prowess, and communication skills, enabling them to effectively:Acquire and curate data: ERDBs source and integrate data from diverse sources within the Stanford Medicine ecosystem, ensuring its accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory and privacy protocols.Analyze and interpret data: They leverage their analytical skills to extract meaningful insights from complex datasets, employing statistical methods and data visualization techniques to uncover hidden patterns and trends.Facilitate data exchange: ERDBs act as data stewards, establishing and maintaining efficient data pipelines between systems, ensuring seamless access for authorized researchers.Collaborate and communicate: They foster strong relationships with researchers, understanding their specific data needs and translating complex data into actionable insights. This involves clear and concise communication, both verbally and in written reports and manuscripts.Guides substantial data projects: Leads the design, implementation, and analysis of data for complex research initiatives.Ensures compliance: Implements and enforces strict data quality, security, and privacy standards.Strategic contributions: Makes valuable contributions to overarching data strategy and decision-making processes.LocationsStanford Health CareWhat you will do• Data Acquisition and Management:• Lead the design and implementation of data acquisition strategies for complex research initiatives. This involves identifying and accessing diverse data sources, developing data acquisition protocols, and ensuring data quality and compliance with regulatory and privacy requirements.• Oversee the integration and harmonization of data from multiple sources. This includes developing data integration plans, implementing data mapping and transformation processes, and resolving data discrepancies to ensure data consistency and compatibility across datasets.• Establish and maintain rigorous data quality standards and processes. This involves defining data quality metrics, implementing data validation and cleaning procedures, and monitoring data quality throughout the research lifecycle.• Ensure strict adherence to all applicable regulatory and privacy protocols, including HIPAA, IRB, and data security policies. This includes implementing access controls, anonymizing data, obtaining necessary approvals, and maintaining detailed audit trails.• Data Analysis and Interpretation:• Lead the development and implementation of advanced statistical and data analysis plans for complex research projects. This involves selecting appropriate statistical methods, designing data analysis workflows, and conducting in-depth analyses to extract meaningful insights from large and complex datasets.• Develop and apply sophisticated data visualization techniques to effectively communicate complex findings to researchers and stakeholders. This includes creating interactive dashboards, heatmaps, network graphs, and other advanced visualizations that clearly represent data patterns, trends, and relationships.• Interpret and communicate data insights in a clear, concise, and actionable manner. This involves translating complex data findings into readily understandable information that can be used to inform decision-making, guide research directions, and advance scientific knowledge.• Prepare reports, presentations, manuscripts, and other communication materials that effectively convey data-driven insights to diverse audiences.• Data Exchange and Collaboration:• Lead the design and implementation of efficient and scalable data pipelines to facilitate seamless data access and exchange for authorized researchers. This involves leveraging data engineering tools and technologies to automate data acquisition, integration, delivery, and access.• Establish and maintain strong relationships with researchers across various disciplines. This involves understanding their specific data needs, providing tailored support, and fostering ongoing collaboration throughout the research lifecycle.• Mentor a team of ERDBs to ensure efficient and effective data management and analysis across multiple projects. This involves delegating tasks, providing guidance and support, and fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.• Contribute to the development and implementation of data management policies, procedures, and standards within the organization. This involves staying abreast of emerging data management best practices and advocating for the adoption of innovative approaches to enhance data quality, accessibility, and utilization.• Additional Responsibilities:• Stay up-to-date on emerging data management and analysis tools, techniques, and best practices. This involves attending conferences, workshops, and training programs, as well as actively engaging with the data science and research communities.• Contribute to the development and training of new ERDB team members. This involves mentoring junior staff, providing guidance and support, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the team.• Document data activities and maintain accurate records of data acquisition, processing, analysis, and dissemination. This ensures data traceability, accountability, and compliance with regulatory requirements.• Contribute to the overall success of the ERDB team by upholding high standards of professionalism, teamwork, and ethical conduct. This includes fostering a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting open communication, and demonstrating a commitment to the responsible and ethical use of data in research.• Proactively identify and address data-related challenges and opportunities to improve data quality, accessibility, and utilization for research purposes. This involves staying abreast of emerging data management trends, advocating for innovative solutions, and contributing to the advancement of data-driven research within the organization.• Participate in research projects as a data scientist or data analyst, contributing to the generation of new knowledge and insights. This involves collaborating with researchers, applying data analysis expertise, and contributing to the publication of research findings in peer-reviewed journals and other scholarly publications.• Present research findings at conferences, workshops, and other scientific forums. This involves effectively communicating data-driven insights to diverse audiences, fostering scientific collaboration, and advancing the dissemination of research knowledge.• Collaborate with researchers from other institutions and disciplines to advance scientific research and knowledge discovery. This involves building partnerships, engaging in joint research projects, and contributing to the advancement of interdisciplinary research initiatives.• Advocate for the responsible and ethical use of data in research and healthcare. This involves promoting data privacy, security, and responsible data sharing practices, and contributing to the development of ethical guidelines for data-driven research.Education Qualifications• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent combination of education and technical experience.• PhD in a relevant field such as statistics, computer science, bioinformatics, health informatics or a related field. PreferredExperience Qualifications• Seven (7) – ten (10) years of experience in data analysis, data management, or a related field.• Extensive experience with leading and managing data analysis projects. Preferred• Proven ability to develop and implement data management strategies. Preferred• Strong leadership skills and the ability to mentor and motivate a team. Preferred• Deep understanding of research ethics, data security protocols, and regulatory compliance. Preferred• Expert level knowledge of internet/web tools, software development, scripting languages, and database design and use. PreferredRequired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities• Technical Skills: Deep expertise in SQL, Python, and advanced statistical analysis tools. Extensive experience with data warehousing, data visualization, cloud computing platforms, data engineering tools, and data governance frameworks.• Soft Skills: Exceptional communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
