Reports To: Professional Staff
Working Hours: As required. Part-time Seasonal.
Duties: Assist golf shop wherever needed.
Responsibilities:
Starter duties would include but is not limited to:
Welcome golfers to USNA Golf Club.
Check all golfers in at first tee to ensure that everyone has registered at golf shop and has a receipt for play.
Check to make sure that each golfer has proper attire, his own set of clubs, and non-metal spikes.
Give presentation to each group explaining conditions for the day, special requests, etc.
Prevent players from becoming late in their starting rotation.
Maintain correct tee time intervals to prevent bunching of groups on course.
Match doubles and singles up so as to maximize efficiency whenever appropriate.
Assist golf shop staff with coordination and staging of all special events, outings, and shotgun starts.
Supervise play as it passes by starter’s gazebo en route to eighth tee.
Keep a sufficient supply of scorecards and pencils at the starter’s gazebo.
Maintain radio contact with golf shop at all times. This is extremely important to the effectiveness of our operation.
Ranger duties would include but is not limited to:
Assure proper pace of play and enforce golf course policy.
Carts should not be driven closer than 30 feet from all tees and greens and should follow all traffic signs.
All daily restrictions on play should be enforced.
No more than two riders and two golf bags per cart.
Children without a driver’s license are not permitted to drive golf carts.
Remind players to replace or fill in divots and repair all ball marks on greens.
Help locate lost balls and keep play moving.
Children under 12 shall be accompanied by an adult at all times and cannot play when the course is crowded. Children under 8 must be approved by the professional staff.
Fivesomes are permitted on occasion, when pre-approved by the professional staff.
Non-playing observers must be on a not-to-interfere basis.
Maintain continual radio contact with starter and golf shop.
Other Requirements
Understand the basic game of golf to ensure he/she does not interfere with golfers.
Must work in all weather conditions, such as rain, snow, heat, and cold.
Ability to perform heavy physical labor.
Possess the ability to work alone or in a group.
Must be able to follow instructions or directions from supervisors
May be required to work in an environment that includes such activities as bending, lifting, stooping, kneeling, climbing, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling and grasping for up to 5 hours without sitting. May need to lift up to 85 lbs. occasionally and up to 50 lbs. frequently.
