Come join the DES Team!The Department of Economic Security, Division of Employment and Rehabilitation Services (DERS) strengthens Arizona communities by bridging and minimizing gaps to employment and independence.DES is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Transition Specialist with the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA). This position is responsible for providing leadership, technical assistance, and training to staff of the Rehabilitation Services Administration. This position is responsible for working as part of a team to develop and implement programs, policies, and best practices to continually enhance the transition services available to the youth in the state of Arizona. This position is responsible for providing programmatic consultation regarding agreements and budgets between the Rehabilitation Services Administration and local educational programs.This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department’s business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.The State of Arizona strives for a work culture that affords employees flexibility, autonomy, and trust. Across our many agencies, boards, commissions, many State employees participate in the State’s Remote Work Program and are able to work remotely in their homes, in offices, and in hoteling spaces. All work, including remote work, should be performed within Arizona, unless an exception is properly authorized in advance.Job Duties:Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:• Provides technical assistance to local educational programs related to vocational rehabilitation and transition by traveling periodically through the State of Arizona decisions issued by Hearing Officers; taking actions specified in the decision; and collaborating.• Works as part of a team to establish, enhance, and maintain transition agreements with local educational programs.• Participates in public relations and outreach concerning transition services.• Works as part of a team to develop and implement programs, policies, and best practices to continually enhance the transition services available to the youth in the State of Arizona.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):• Knowledge of vocational rehabilitation services and transition services for youth and disabilities.• Knowledge of working in the field of vocational rehabilitation and experience working with school-age youth in the provision of transition services.• Skills in writing in a professional manner.• Skills in communicating effectively to others.• Skills in utilizing a variety of software applications for the generation of information and communication.• Ability to manage complex situations and relationships• Ability to effectively prioritize tasks.Selective Preference(s):The ideal candidate for this position will have:• Bachelor's degree in rehabilitation or related field and at least three years in rehabilitation or employment services to individuals with disabilities.• Possess a master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or a closely related field; Certified Rehabilitation Counselor certification. Experience working as a VR transition counselor, working in or with the school system and the Department of Education.Pre-Employment Requirements:• Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.• All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).• Travel will be required for State business. If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver's license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver's license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on State business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training.
