The Connecticut Department of Correction is recruiting for the position of full-time Correctional Deputy Warden for the Parole and Community Services Division.
This is a newly established role within the Department of Correction.
POSITION DETAILS
This role will oversee staff and operations of custody and security and/or comprehensive programs and treatment functions/activities within the Division of Parole and Community Services. Position location will be based on operational need and may be located at any of the Division locations: Hartford, Waterbury, Norwich, Bridgeport, New Haven or Wethersfield.
This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position on first shift. Specific schedule will be based on Division need.

ABOUT US
The Division of Parole and Community Services (P&CS) supervises and provides support services to offenders released to the community under the jurisdiction of both the Commissioner of Correction and the Board of Pardons and Paroles. The Division is comprised of district offices located in Bridgeport, Hartford, New Haven, Norwich and Waterbury and the following specialized units: Residential Services, Central Intake, Special Management, Mental Health, Fugitive Investigations, DUI, Women's Re-Entry, Support Services, and Training and Staff Development Unit. Parole officers in each of these districts and units continually strive to enhance public safety by providing offenders opportunities to successfully re-integrate into the community and be productive, accountable members of society.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Correction this class is accountable for acting as an assistant to the Correctional Warden or overseeing a major program area within the central office and facility operations.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
• Oversees staff and operations of custody and security and/or comprehensive programs and treatment functions at a correctional facility or major program area within central office and facility operations;
• Coordinates, plans and supervises custody and security and/or programs and treatment activities;
• Formulates program goals and objectives;
• Develops or assists in development and implementation of custody and security and/or treatment programs or institutional operational and/or treatment policies and practices;
• Ensures enforcement of agency and institution rules and regulations;
• Interprets and administers pertinent laws;
• Evaluates staff;
• Prepares or assists in preparation of facility or program area budget;
• Maintains contacts with individuals both within and outside of program area who might impact on program activities;
• Administers and/or coordinates staff training and development activities;
• Oversees administration of disciplinary controls over inmate population throughout institution;
• Oversees and coordinates assignment of operational and/or treatment staff with other institutional programs;
• Participates in strategic planning process and initiatives;
• Maintains records and submits reports;
• Coordinates reporting activities of various disciplines;
• Serves as liaison with courts, social agencies, federal officials or community groups, interpreting programs and objectives and developing cooperative relationships;
• Interprets applicable labor agreements and conducts labor management and/or grievance meetings;
• In absence of Correctional Warden may assume responsible charge of institution;
• May recommend new programs;
• May provide oversight and supervision of unit management;
• May review and recommend discretionary release programs;
• May research, develop and implement evidence-based programs;
• Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
• Considerable knowledge of
• custody, security and control measures and techniques of maintaining discipline;
• functions and activities involved in contemporary treatment and training programs;
• modern correctional methods and practices;
• psychology of inmates in a correctional institution;
• Knowledge of

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of experience at the level of Correctional Counselor Supervisor, Correctional Captain or Parole and Community Services Supervisor.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Knowledge of Central/Residential Intake Units within Parole;
• Knowledge of Parole and Community Services policies and procedures;
• Knowledge of home investigation process and halfway house referral process;
• Knowledge of Provider networks;
• Knowledge of halfway house audits;
• Experience utilizing the casenotes system;
• Experience prioritizing and meeting time sensitive deadlines.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbents in this class may be exposed to some danger of assault or injury by inmates.
