Job DescriptionCOMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST• RETURNSHIP -About The Return Utah ProgramThe Return Utah program is a formal career reentry program, designated for Utahns desiring to re-enter the workforce after a career break. Along with a state job and traditional on-the-job training, Return Utah roles provide 16-weeks of transitional support (similar to an internship) which includes an office technology review, coaching, career development, mentorship, networking opportunities and job market readiness training.Career break reasoning is irrelevant to hire. Program participants have taken career breaks for varied reasons including childcare, chronic illness, caring for a family member, educational pursuits, retirement, military service, volunteerism, entrepreneurship, political office, travel, etc.To Be Eligible For This Return-to-work Opportunity Candidates:• Must have a career break of one year or more at the time of application(unless the candidate is affiliated with the military in any way including as a military spouse/partner), or• Demonstrate underemployed at the time of applicationand• Have prior professional/life experience in a functional area of interestThis is a short-term opportunity. However, upon completion of the Return Utah program, participants may receive a long term offer of employment, based on performance and successful completion of organizational goals.Job DescriptionThe Startup State Initiative program needs a Communications Specialist role to effectively communicate its value and resources to entrepreneurs and small businesses across Utah. As the marketing arm for the Governor's Office of Economic Opportunity (GOEO), a dedicated Communications Specialist will ensure cohesive messaging and widespread awareness of the program’s offerings. This role is crucial for building strong relationships with media, stakeholders, and the business community, amplifying the program’s reach. By strategically managing public relations, the specialist will enhance the program's visibility and reputation. Ultimately, this will drive engagement and support for Utah’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.Responsibilities• Advise and Assist in the development and execution of a content calendar for internal and external partners.• Ensure content targets and date releases are met• Three posts per week and any additional pertinent PR• Create two weekly pieces of content for the Newsroom• Support the Editor-in-Chief• Update and maintain both websites• Maintain, update, and add data for Events, Pitch Competitions, and Resources.• Post on social media• Other duties as assignedTime & Location Expectations• 20 - 30 hours per week• Team Meeting (weekly): 30 min• Team Meeting (monthly): 30 - 60 min• This is a flexible position offering in-person and/or telework options.
