OverviewThe Child Development Division (CDD) within the Department for Children and Families is hiring a Communications Coordinator II to assist the Division with its ongoing communications work, and in the implementation of Act 76 (a 2023 Child Care law). This position will primarily support CDD with its field-facing communication, marketing and media planning efforts, and with the internal coordination-and, to some degree, standardization-of Division communications. This work will include the ongoing development and realization of a Division "voice" that is represented through written communications, and the division's website and social media channels.This position will report to CDD's Director of Policy and Planning. All CDD staff perform their respective functions with the goal of ensuring that the division's work is client-centered, supports equitable outcomes, and is high-impact. This is a hybrid office-based/remote position based at the Waterbury State Office Complex, although staff have the option of working on-site full-time.Key responsibilities of this position include:• Design and implement CDD communication strategies;• Assist in the development (writing, editing, branding, accessibility checks) and release of CDD communication resources;• Develop and maintain division website content;• Lead and support the management of communications projects;• Serve as point of contact for communications projects within the Division;• Support CDD division leadership in developing communications strategic plans and workplans;• Assist in the management of public outreach, media, social media, and digital campaigns;• Independently oversee day-to-day activities related to communications projects with support from their supervisor as needed;• Collaborate closely with program staff to distill complex and often highly technical information into information that is widely accessible;• Serve in a variety of communication capacities during public health events and emergencies;• Represent CDD at local, regional, and national meetings and conferences, as needed.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required for this position include:• Demonstrated knowledge of best practices of public-facing communications;• Experience with web-based communication strategies, with an emphasis in social marketing and the effective delivery of information;• Demonstrated ability to understand, synthesize, and translate complex or technical information into plain language for a variety of audiences;• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels within and outside of CDD, and with contracted vendors;• Strong oral and written communication skills;• Experience professionally supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives or goals.• Ability to perform job duties within the framework of the three key practices of the Child Development Division: to do work that is client-centered, that supports equitable outcomes, and that is high-impact.Who May ApplyThis position, Communications Coordinator II (Job Requisition #50870), is open to all State employees and external applicants.If you would like more information about this position, please contact chris.case@vermont.gov.Resumes will not be accepted via e-mail.
