Position and SalaryThe Attorney General’s Office is recruiting for a permanent full-time Paralegal 2 in the Antitrust Division. This position is located in Seattle, Washington, and is represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE).Paralegal 2 (Range 55) salary range: $59,844 - $80,460 (Effective 7/1/2024). The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the preferred candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.The following stipends may apply based on position requirements:Incumbents assigned to our Seattle office location receive an additional 5% King County Location Pay stipend.Incumbents assigned to a position designated as requiring dual language skills will receive a 5% Dual Language Requirement Pay stipend.About the Antitrust Division:The Antitrust Division enforces state and federal antitrust laws. We investigate and litigate matters seeking injunctive and monetary relief for consumers and the State of Washington in federal and state court. The Antitrust Division of the Washington State Attorney General’s Office is among the largest and most active state antitrust enforcers in the country. We litigate complex, high stakes cases in a wide array of industries that affect the daily lives of all Washingtonians, including supermarkets, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, food products, and high tech.The Antitrust Division is a member of the National Association of Attorneys General Antitrust Task Force and has an active multistate investigation and litigation practice. In addition, we frequently conduct joint investigations with the Federal Trade Commission and the Antitrust Division of the United States Department of Justice on significant competition matters affecting the people of the State of Washington.In addition to its enforcement activities, the Division regularly engages in competition advocacy and provides advice and training to state agencies and external stakeholders on competition-related matters. It also administers a notification program that requires hospitals, hospital systems, and providers to notify the AGO 60 days in advance of any merger, acquisition, or contracting affiliation, to enable the Division to review the transaction for potential anti-competitive effects.Duties and Essential Functions of a Paralegal 2:A Paralegal 2 functions at a high level of independence in performing complex substantive paralegal work which, absent the paralegal, would be performed by an assistant attorney general. This work includes legal research in selected areas, shepardizing cases, analyzing case fact situations for legal issues, and identification and development of legal strategy. In addition, may act as lead worker or coordinate projects involving other paralegals or clerical support staff.Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:Manage all litigation, investigation, and discovery documents by incorporating technology into case management processes and case analysis. This includes:Utilize databases for tracking documents, pleadings, depositions and other legal documents, including the ability to use or modify existing computer databases for setting up case projects for complex and high profile cases;Operate case management databases for investigative and litigation cases tracking discovery service and production, fact and expert witness information, deposition exhibits, privileged documents and other relevant case tracking information.Generate reports from databases to use for fact or legal research;Identifying and preparing exhibits;Draft and respond to discovery requests, review answers, and prepares interrogatories, requests for documents, and responses to the same;Locate, research, contact, and interview potential fact witnesses;Conduct business or industry research; Analyze market share information, industry statistics, reports, company records and other probative data acquired through document productions and investigations to assist in establishing the existence of antitrust violations.Assist attorneys in preparing for depositions, preparing deposition exhibits, assisting at depositions conducted virtually, and preparing deposition summaries;Assist in trial preparation and settlement negotiations by management of witnesses, documents, exhibits, and courtroom technology; andProvides complex paralegal support to attorneys and litigation support manager.Ideal Candidate ProfileQualifications:Combination of four years of experience through paralegal certification, two-year paralegal degree, and/or paraprofessional experience in support of an attorney.ORThree years’ experience as a Paralegal 1 in Washington State Service.You may have gained applicable paraprofessional experience through previous Paralegal or Legal Assistant work.SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Experience using e-Discovery databases such as Everlaw, Relativity, CasePoint, or Logikcull for creating productions, uploading documents, and managing set up and administration of projects.Ability to use Microsoft Access and Excel at a high level.APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:In addition to completing the online application, applicants must attach the following documents to their profile in order to be considered for this position:A letter of interest, describing your specific qualifications for the position;A current resume detailing experience and education.READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION COMPLETELY:Carefully review your application for accuracy, spelling and grammar before submitting.You may not reapply to this posting for 30 days.The initial screening of applications will be solely based on the contents and completeness of the “work experience” and “education” sections of your application in www.careers.wa.gov, completeness of the application material submitted, and responses to the supplemental questionnaire.A resume will not substitute for completing the “work experience” section of the application.All information may be verified and documentation may be required.#J-18808-LjbffrOriginal job Paralegal 2/ Antitrust Division/ WA State Office of the Attorney General posted on GrabJobs ©.
