Vehicle Software Fleet Management Engineer

A thriving economy in space is needed to make life on Earth more vibrant, sustainable, and equitable. Space technology will enable global access to information, solutions to climate change, answers to global food security, products that transform healthcare, clean energy production, and more. Today, rocket launch options are slow, expensive, and unreliable. Stoke is building the world’s most efficient fully and rapidly reusable rocket designed to fly daily that will radically increase access to space and open up the space economy to safeguard our precious home, Earth.  

Description 

Reusable systems are the key to seamlessly connecting Earth and space. Your primary responsibility will be to own and maintain the ever-growing vehicle software fleet, automating the deployment process of getting software binaries and OS updates across the fleet. Your tools will bring observability, consistency and automation as we scale towards launch. You must be ready to stay focused, move fast, self-direct, and learn on the fly. 

Responsibilities 

  • Create a fleet management solution that goes across the stack from OS, application binaries, and configuration upgrades to health and status visibility of the entire vehicle software fleet (test stands and dev benches included)
  • Maintain fleet health by actively triaging failed upgrades and unhealthy systems. Responsible for reviving systems to a useable state
  • Continuously improve the developer experience that allows software and non-software engineers alike to iterate quickly with visibility throughout the development
  • Contribute to excellence in operations including maintaining and improving our CI pipeline and independently supporting an on-call shift 

Qualifications 

  • Experience in Python
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar
  • 2-4 years of experience in the platform, devops or infrastructure engineering fields
  • Proficiency with containers and container management like docker and docker compose
  • Experience with edge devices and bare metal embedded systems
  • Experience with version and config management across a fleet of heterogenous systems
  • Experience with Linux device provisioning and imaging via grub, PXE booting
  • Experience with embedded Linux tooling such as yocto, buildroot or nixOS
  • Experience in fleet management tools like chef, puppet or ansible
  • Enjoy breaking (and fixing) things
  • Ability to lead

  • Excellent written and verbal communication 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Rust
  • Experience in working with AWS IoT Greengrass or similar IoT fleet management solutions
  • Worked with AWS SSM secrets management
  • Experience with Hardware in the Loop testbeds
  • Expert in CI/CD pipelines like GitHub actions, CircleCI or Jenkins

Compensation

Target Levels:

  • Level 1 Range: $94,100 - $141,100 
  • Level 2 Range: $117,600 - $176,400
