Strategic Purchaser

Are you looking to move to the next level in your career?

The Strategic Purchaser performs local / regional strategic sourcing initiatives / supplier deals in accordance to approved global category strategies and rules of collaboration, and supports the Category Manager on global sourcing initiatives / global supplier deals. In addition the role holder supports the Procurement Project Leader in timely delivering project-related Procurement objectives as described in the stage gate milestones of the PDP process.

Key elements of your role include:

  • Supporting Category Management / Sourcing in performing global sourcing initiatives / global supplier deals and performing local implementation of sourcing initiative in accordance with existing category strategies and New Design Supplier List (NDSL)
  • Contribute to the (Sub-)Category Strategy development by providing local / regional requirement and aligning with relevant internal stakeholders, and as next step responsible for its subsequent local implementation to deliver the (sub-)category specific targets
  • Take part in preparing and performing local / regional tenders and requests according to defined global category strategy and rules of collaboration. Perform / participate in negotiations within the defined category / sub-categories
  • Contribute to defining cost models and predicting price development as basis for actively promoting improvement measures to capture integral cost reduction opportunities for the defined sub-categories
  • Advising internal stakeholders when sourcing materials and services as well as active analysis of optimization levers in regard to demand and demand specifications (Demand Shaping)
  • Responsible for NDSL vendors integration in demand/specification management and design process in support to the PPL to achieve project deliverables and requirements (Quality, Logistics, Technology, Cost). Responsible to deliver the required content and timeline to the PPL regarding innovation projects along the PDP process (shared with PPL)
  • Responsible for vendor management activities for local / regional vendors which are not managed as Top vendors as appointed by the Category Manager, and contribute to ensure a structured Supplier Relationship Management (true-SRM) for Top vendors
  • Accountable for local vendor performance in the defined sub-categories and to define corrective measures to ensure commodity related vendor performance targets are met. (Quality, Logistics, Technology, Cost).
  • Shared responsibility of ensuring alignment with local procurement operations (incl. Responsible to ensure alignment on logistical and quality requirement with resp. local procurement operations and supplier quality assurance (incl. outsourcing partners) to secure applicability and the balance of contracts (TCO)
  • Shared responsibility for the documentation of strategic sourcing initiatives and achieved savings in collaboration with central reporting function

Education, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in relevant field with several years of professional experience
  • Several years’ experience of working in strategic procurement with cross-functional experience through project work in a related functional area
  • Practitioner level leadership qualities, management experience of professional virtual cross-functional teamwork and –management
  • Advanced experience of engineering in a similar technical field
  • Experience with and comfort working in multi-cultural, multi-discipline organization level as required for professional purchasing projects and supplier relationship management
  • Strong English skills, both written and verbal
