(80%) The individual filling this position will be assisting Dr. Hefty with routine laboratory maintenance, including the preparation of growth media and chemical supplies, sterilization of media, chemicals and consumable supplies, laboratory dishwashing, as well as other specified and routine laboratory procedures and techniques, and proficiency in the use of laboratory micropipettors.
(20%) The position will also include assisting in the development of training videos to demonstrate research techniques commonly used in the laboratory.
- The candidate should have a basic understanding of chemistry and biology, as well as math proficiency to enable calculations in preparing standard chemical solutions needed in the laboratory.
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
- Proficiency in the use of a micropipettors, as well as the use of Microsoft office suite including Word, Excel and Powerpoint or Google Doc equivalents.
