Responsibilities:
The Refugee Summer Academy at the Northside CYO will run Monday June 26th - Friday August 18th 2023. We are currently looking for energetic and self-motivated individuals to serve as Youth Leaders. The Summer Academy provides an educational experience that will prepare refugee students for school in the United States, while providing the students with a fun, encouraging, ample, and overall positive, safe experience.
This is a temporary full time position; Monday through Friday 8:30am-4:30pm.
Youth Leaders will be responsible for creating weekly lesson plans aimed at preparing the students, aged 4 to 18, for school in an American setting in the fall. Youth Leaders will be responsible for providing instruction on selected topics adhering to the syllabi. Youth Leaders with the support of the summer assistants ,will plan and implement afternoon recreational activities including literacy, science, arts & crafts, cooking and music.
Additionally, Youth Leaders will be responsible for cleaning and the up keeping their classrooms.
Qualifications:
At least one year college attendance with experience working with children in a classroom setting and/or leading group activities. Ideal candidates must be flexible, patient, team-orientated and energetic. Understanding of diverse cultures strongly desired.
Valid N.Y.S. Drivers License, registered and insured vehicle, N.Y.S. Child Abuse Registry clearance.
