SRE (Site Reliability Engineering)

About Sunbound

Company. Sunbound is building the “financial OS for senior care”. The current senior care payments experience is broken which increases costs and inefficiencies for senior living operators while making it confusing, cumbersome and stressful for families. Sunbound was created to solve this problem by building the first modern platform to handle this process end-to-end and save operators and families time, money and effort.

Mission. Our founders were inspired to start the business after seeing the pain points firsthand with their own families, and deeply care about helping one of the most overlooked groups in our population: seniors. Sunbound’s mission is to make managing money for senior living easy, so our customers can focus on what really matters: providing quality housing & care.

Team. We're a dedicated, close-knit group focused on expanding hubs in Downtown Brooklyn, NYC, and Washington, DC.

Traction. Since launching in mid-2023, we now serve  thousands of families. We’re currently doing 7 figures in ARR.

Growth. Sunbound has absolutely caught fire as a business, growing 30% month-over-month. The senior living market is massive at >$230b and is expected to grow rapidly as the “baby boomer” generation continues to age.

Funding. We've raised now three rounds of funding from top-tier investors including Fika Ventures, Bling Capital, Liquid2 Ventures, LiveOak Bank, Cambrian Ventures and Max Ventures. These firms have collectively backed over 20 unicorns such as Square, Lyft and Rippling.

About the Role

As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), you will play a mission-critical role in scaling, securing, and stabilizing the infrastructure that powers our rapidly evolving platform. This is more than an operational role, you’ll design and implement systems that support our services and deployments, ensuring our developers can innovate fast and with confidence.

You’ll work at the intersection of software engineering and infrastructure, crafting automation and observability systems that anticipate problems before they impact users. In partnership with engineering and product teams, you’ll help define best practices, create tools, and drive forward infrastructure that is robust, scalable, and resilient.

Join us as we build the next generation of cloud-native architecture. Your leadership and technical insight will help shape how we build, deploy, and operate software at scale.

  • Collaborate with the development team using Lerna-managed monorepos to optimize CI/CD pipelines in GitLab, ensuring high velocity and quality across services.

  • Participate in architectural decisions and provide guidance on system design, capacity planning, and failure recovery.

  • Build tools and automation to eliminate manual operations and improve developer productivity.

  • Contribute to incident management and post-mortem analysis to drive continuous reliability improvements.

  • Lead and mentor junior engineers, promoting a culture of engineering excellence, collaboration, and learning.

  • Participate in on-call rotations and help evolve our on-call processes to reduce operational overhead and improve response times.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in Site Reliability, Infrastructure, or DevOps Engineering.

  • Deep experience operating production systems in AWS at scale, with expertise in core AWS services like EC2, ECS/EKS, S3, RDS, IAM, and networking.

  • Advanced proficiency with infrastructure automation tools, especially CDK. Experience with Terraform or CloudFormation is a plus.

  • Strong observability background, with hands-on experience using monitoring and alerting tools such as Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, and Sentry.

  • Familiarity with JavaScript/TypeScript monorepos managed via Lerna, and the challenges of CI/CD in such environments.

  • Proficient with GitLab CI/CD and related DevOps practices (build pipelines, release automation, secrets management).

  • Strong programming skills in Python, Go, Bash, or another modern systems language.

  • Excellent communication and cross-team collaboration skills, with a passion for sharing knowledge and mentoring.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Bonus Points

  • Experience working in a regulated environment (SOC2, HIPAA, etc.).

  • Knowledge of Kubernetes and service mesh architecture.

  • Prior contributions to open-source infrastructure tools or frameworks.

  • Experience with incident response and building blameless postmortem culture.
