Project Manager (Special Programs)

Symmetrio is actively recruiting for a Project Manager for our customer, a large government organization in Philadelphia, PA. This role will focus on leading high-impact special projects at the direction of executive leadership, with a strong emphasis on driving strategic initiatives and resolving complex organizational challenges. The ideal candidate will bring a mix of analytical insight, project delivery experience, and the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams in fast-paced environments.

The Project Manager will work closely with the CIO and other senior leaders to assess business needs, scope new initiatives, remediate underperforming projects, and ensure successful execution of technology and transformation efforts. This role is key to aligning operations with broader administrative goals and long-term priorities.

This position is primarily based onsite in Philadelphia, with occasional travel outside the city as needed to support project requirements. Salary range is $110-135k.

Responsibilities

  • Drive project scoping and planning efforts including identifying business needs, defining deliverables, and developing comprehensive project plans.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery of initiatives within budget constraints and aligned to key milestones.
  • Assemble and coordinate project resources, assign tasks, and establish clear timelines.
  • Analyze project risks, perform cost/benefit assessments, and propose actionable recommendations.
  • Track and manage budgets, project performance metrics, and overall financial accountability.
  • Ensure all work aligns with enterprise architecture and technology standards.
  • Facilitate regular stakeholder meetings, prepare documentation, and maintain project dashboards.
  • Adhere to formal project management methodologies, including the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Produce detailed status reports for senior management and ensure transparency throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Proven ability to lead projects independently, including managing scope, schedules, resources, and stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to senior leadership.
  • Expertise in managing multidisciplinary teams and coordinating with stakeholders across different departments.
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems and enterprise-level IT project environments.
  • Proficient in project planning, budgeting, resource forecasting, and issue resolution.
  • Familiarity with data center operations, IT infrastructure (servers, storage, cloud, disaster recovery), and performance metrics.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • PMP Certification or Master’s Certificate in Project Management.
  • 3–5 years of hands-on project management experience, ideally in a public sector or enterprise IT environment.
  • 4–6 years of general business or technical experience, including vendor management and contract oversight.
