The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) C4ISR Division is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to provide embedded technical support to the United States Air Force. As a trusted member of the government team, the hiree will review technical design documentation within the digital engineering toolset, analyze engineering practices, identify risks, and provide candid feedback. The role requires the ability to identify opportunities to increase efficiency, ensure integration across a large system with dispersed engineering teams, and to identify and recommend actions the government can take to insure the successful acquisition of the Launch & Guidance Control segment of the Sentinel Missile System.

This position requires a strong set of soft skills to influence and work with multi-organizational teams. SDL is a key contributor to the strategic defense of the nation. If you enjoy challenging design problems, we want you to join our team.

This position is full time and is located at Hill Air Force Base, UT, and offices in Roy, and Clearfield, UT..

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct technical review of engineering products, roadmaps, integrated schedules, verification and validation methodologies, experiment plans, and requirements
  • Work side-by-side with the customer and other Federally Funded Research and Development Center/University Affiliated Research Center (FFRDC/UARC) entities as a subject matter expert analyzing and assessing processes and procedures employed by vendors to identify risks, issues, and opportunities (RIOs) and recommend steps to mitigate or implement them
  • Ensure all subsystems integrate and that interfaces are well defined
  • Support government led design reviews, integration and test activities, and other key acquisition milestone events leading to operational acceptance of the complete weapon system
  • Assist the government interleaving human factors, ease of operation, and mission focus into the system design
  • Ability to identify and recommend tasking for self and others
  • Provide recommendations to ensure test and evaluation of the subsystems accurately assess requirements and parameters defined in the system models
  • Enable government ownership of the technical baseline
  • Participate in technical interchange meetings and reviews
  • Create and maintain programmatic and technical documentation to ensure efficient program planning and execution
  • Effectively communicate technical results verbally and in writing
  • Represent SDL and the government in forums and meetings

Required Qualifications:

  • BS degree in related technical field. e.g., aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or systems engineering
  • 7+ years of relevant systems engineering experience
  • Familiarity with strategic deterrence practices, principles, and weapons systems
  • Experience with mechanical, electrical, and computer system and subsystem design, integration, and test
  • Demonstrated expertise and experience in complex weapon systems and ground facility development
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to draft and present materials clearly and succinctly to customers
  • Ability and willingness to travel
  • US Citizen able to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with digital engineering tools (e.g., CAMEO, DOORs, Rhapsody, etc.)
  • Active TS/SCI
  • Experience in DoD acquisitions
  • Experience in codes and cryptography, weapon system targeting, and launch and guidance control
