Industrial Electrician I

Position Summary

The Industrial Electrician performs a wide range of basic duties in support of both building and machine electrical systems, as well as physical plant maintenance.

Measures of success:

  • Successfully completed projects according to authorized National Electrical Codes
  • Projects completed on time and to acceptable standards
  • Consistent response to maintenance calls
  • Timely completion of work orders
  • Updated work orders within the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performs basic duties to, install, repair, and maintain all electronic and electrical equipment, motors, and controls for new and existing machinery.
  • Bends and installs conduit, pulls and terminates wires and replaces motor starters.
  • Performs a large variety of tests on all electrical systems. Balances loads and power factor.
  • Troubleshoots and identifies needs for basic repairs to automation equipment using manuals, schematics, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programs, meters, and power and hand tools.
  • Overhauls relays, circuit breakers, electric power motors and motor bearings.
  • Replaces defective contactors, modules on electronic controls and equipment.
  • Assists in various aspects of electrical construction and maintenance.
  • Installs and services generating equipment, switchboards, motors, starters, lighting circuits, circuit breakers, AC and DC motor controls, and replaces or repairs wiring.
  • Replaces malfunctioning hoists and checks battery charges on forklifts.
  • Installs, tests and services computer cables as well as installs communication lines.
  • Researches and recommends new replacement parts for equipment.
  • Remains current with electrical code requirements.
  • Completes work orders and maintains the CMMS.
  • Follows all health and safety rules, regulations, and practices at all times, including Lockout/Tagout procedures.
  • Maintains a clean and neat working environment.
  • Performs other duties as required or directed.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Rhode Island Journeyperson Electrician License
  • OSHA 10 certified
  • 4+ years of basic electrical experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Basic level of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) knowledge, including ability to read PLC programs
  • Working knowledge of relays, controls, sensors and switches
  • Basic knowledge of both electrical and mechanical aspects of industrial equipment
  • Knowledge to operate volt-ohm meters, oscilloscopes, continuity testers, wire tracing equipment and other equipment utilized during the typical incidences of the electrician’s duties
  • Up to date knowledge of current electrical codes
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code
  • Familiar with HVAC systems
  • Ability to perform physical demanding tasks, such as climbing ladders and high range scissor lift
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs without assistance; use hoists and other necessary equipment for lifting as required
  • Ability to be self-motivated and work in both team and individual settings

Preferred:

  • Associate Degree in Electrical or Electronics Technology

Work Environment

This position works in both an office environment using computers and technology, as well as in a production plant where large equipment and noise are prevalent.  Safety equipment and personal protective gear is required in these areas. Verbal and auditory capability are required.

This position reports into the site every day.
