Software Engineering Intern

Tamr develops data products that use battle-tested AI to speed the discovery, enrichment and maintenance of the golden records businesses need to accelerate growth. Tamr’s AI-powered, human-refined approach delivers value in days, not months or years all while lowering project and operational costs when compared to MDM or DIY solutions. By connecting data across source systems and incorporating 1-click, 3rd party data enrichment, Tamr delivers accurate, comprehensive and durable data ready for consumption.

We are currently looking for an intern to join our core engineering team in Harvard Square (Cambridge)  one of the most important technical hubs in the world! We are a close-knit engineering team of about 40 professionals who are always willing to teach and eager to learn. We’ve created a collaborative, supportive, and fun culture while doing serious work.

With such a small team, every member needs to be contributing in a meaningful, business-impacting way. So when you join, we will work with you to find the project you want to work on; One that you're excited to finish and that we're excited to have.

As an intern you'll join a team of 4 or 5 people. You will be treated like a regular employee. You'll have a manager who will mentor you in your professional development and a tech lead who will support you with scheduling, architecture, and coding. You will design, break down, and own stories for every sprint. Your code will be held to the same standard expected of every engineer.

Applicants must be currently pursuing either a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a technically related field and should be available for the internship from July 2024 to December 2024. This position is based out of our office in Cambridge, MA.

What you'll get to do:
  • Learn to create and maintain self-provisioning infrastructure using tools like Ansible, Terraform, and Docker.
  • Manage Tamr Cloud in development and production hosted on public cloud platforms.
  • Work with the team to respond to incidents, facilitate post-mortems, and ensure closure of follow-up action items.
  • Help us develop and drive real-time observability solutions that provide visibility into system health.
  • Partner with development teams to improve services through rigorous testing and release procedures.
  • Improving robustness by automation of workflows, process improvements, CI/CD pipelines, and integrating modern toolsets.

What You'll Bring:
  • Your experience with public cloud (preferably AWS or GCP) and provisioning automation.
  • Understanding of common scripting languages (Python, Bash).
  • Experience working with at least one object-oriented language (Java, .Net, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of networking and web concepts and ability to debug issues down to the packets
  • Understanding of the Linux/Windows command line and system operations
  • Working knowledge of basic systems metrics like CPU, memory, and processes.

Serious bonus points if you:
  • Experience working as DevOps or SRE.
  • Experience with Linux/Unix system administration.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.
  • Familiarity with automation tools like Helm, Terraform, and Ansible.

  • Multi-cloud (GCP/AWS/Azure)
  • Git, GitOps, Terraform, Ansible
  • Kubernetes, Helm, Istio, Docker
  • Big Data Technologies (BigTable/HBase, Dataproc/Databricks/Spark)
