What you'll be doing:

This position will assist with the development and engineering of packages, preparation of artwork and approval, specifications, package testing, and other related activities as assigned by manager.

Key responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assist with the development and engineering of packages to ensure both aesthetic and functional objectives are met.
Compile and complete accurate component specifications.
Communicate status and issues regarding project activity on a continual basis to manager.
Organize development material and ensure delivery to manufacturing sites.
Receive and coordinate component approvals (for printed or decorated packaging components) ensuring communication with various departments.
Prepare approved standards for distribution.
Gain full familiarity of manufacturing production equipment, its capability and gain knowledge of other manufacturing locations.
Basic understanding of reading 2D/3D technical drawings for commercialization of approved designs.
Conduct dimensional analysis on packaging components to ensure adherence to specifications.
Support and attend line trials, tooling acceptance trials. Report and resolve problems.
Maintain a working knowledge of Packaging/Product innovation, technology advances and knowledge of environmental-related worldwide requirements.
Provide technical support to Senior Engineer, as requested.
Working in the Product Evaluation and Technology (PET) leading the package testing plan generation and package release approvals of developed products.
Manage compatibility testing in appropriate packaging materials, certify shelf-life requirements and perform physical testing (distribution simulation and force, of components and final packages to predict consumer experience and prevent consumer issues.

PRINCIPAL RELATIONSHIPS: This position will interface with The Body Shop Packaging team and the vendor community.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

BS Package Engineering (preferred) or equivalent technical degree such Chemical Engineering with packaging experience.
0 to 3 years of packaging experience, ideally within Cosmetics or Personal Care categories (however, all applicants will be considered).
Material science knowledge in plastics, paperboard, printing and decoration methods.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills; demonstrated ability to work with diverse cultures and global colleagues.
Commitment to accuracy, attention to detail and quality of information generated.
Ability to function in a fast pace environment, adaptable to managing changing business needs.
