Temporary Associate - Regenerative Medicine/Bioscaffolds

This temporary role will conduct and assist in decellularization and bioscaffold research efforts to develop tissue-based regenerative medicine products for the treatment of pulmonary hypertension and other lung diseases.

  • Apply knowledge of scientific research practices and processes to apply experimental methods and protocols, problem-solve, and to initiate and manage day-to-day tasks effectively
  • Carry out, monitor and document experimental processes for the production and characterization of lung-derived bioscaffold materials suitable for lung regenerative medicine applications
  • Perform and interpret fit-for-purpose assays to assess the properties and characteristics of native lung tissue and scaffold materials which may be biochemical, immunological or histological in nature.
  • Perform and interpret results from microbiological survey of specimens including bioburden, growth promotion, and endotoxin as applied to decellularized and tissue engineered lung constructs
  • Prepare required materials and solutions, including bioreactors and systems for organ decellularization, in vitro organ-level functional assessment, and other organ experimentation
  • Use aseptic and surgical techniques to prepare human and non-human organs and tissues, and cells for experimentation
  • Apply prescribed laboratory methods and protocols regarding laboratory safety, and handling of biohazard materials, including human or animal cells and tissues
  • Provide laboratory and research support to staff engaged in decellularization and organ function operations as above and through additional duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS)
  • 1-3 years of hands on laboratory experience in biology, molecular biology, biomedical sciences, biomedical engineering, or other relevant field. Relevant course work or project-based undergraduate or Master's level post-graduate research experience may be considered
  • Some experience in the performance and implementation of quantitative biochemical or biological assays such as DNA or protein quantification, microbial enumeration, ELISA
  • Ability to carefully follow protocols and procedures
  • Familiarity with basic laboratory procedures, instrumentation and data software
  • Good time management and documentation practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS in Sciences or BME
  • Experience with automated systems

  • We do not provide relocation or housing assistance
  • This temporary opportunity has the potential to last up to 9-12 months
  • Rate of pay is dependent upon relevant experience

Job Type: Temporary

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour

Shift:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Day shift

Weekly day range:

  • Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Durham, NC 27709: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
