• ***PLEASE NOTE THIS APPLICATION IS EXPRESSING INTEREST IN THIS ROLE AND NOT A FORMAL APPLICATION*****GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking to hire an experienced antitrust litigator to lead the state’s antitrust enforcement efforts and its coordination with state, federal, and international enforcers. The Antitrust Division is charged with investigating and prosecuting violations of the Texas Free Enterprise and Antitrust Act and federal antitrust statutes. The Division’s caseload consists of highly complex and high-profile investigations and litigation that may involve antitrust violations such as monopolization, conspiracies among competitors, or anticompetitive mergers. Matters investigated or litigated can be local, regional, or national in scope and may be coordinated with other state attorneys general, the Federal Trade Commission, or the U.S. Department of Justice.The OAG is a dynamic state agency with over 4,000 employees throughout the State of Texas. Assistant Attorneys General (AAGs) experience the challenge and honor of public service while enjoying a healthy work-life balance; hands-on legal experience; and engaging camaraderie in Austin, the scenic and lively capital of Texas.ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONSRepresents the state’s interest as lead counsel in all stages of significant, high-profile, and complex antitrust litigation, investigations, and transaction reviews at the pretrial, trial, and appellate level in both state and federal court by performing tasks that include: initiating investigations, conducting discovery; preparing legal documents (e.g., pleadings, briefs, memoranda); attending and participating in hearings and trials; and coordinating with other governmental bodiesProvides legal advice, counsel, and assistance to client state agencies and the agency’s Executive Administration on significant, complex litigation, investigations, and competition policy mattersWith approval from Executive Administration and OAG Press Office, may represent the agency publicly at designated events (e.g., press conferences, meetings, public announcements) regarding significant and high-profile litigation and investigationsPerforms related work as assignedMaintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functionsAttends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedulePerforms work that may require overnight travelEnsures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information.Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrityQualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.Licensed as an attorney by the State of TexasMember in good standing with the State Bar of TexasEight years of full-time experience as a licensed attorneyExperience performing complex case managementSkill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlinesExcellent organization/administrative skills, including a strong, consistent attention to detail and organized work styleSkill in effective oral and written communicationSkill in conducting effective negotiationsSkill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision makingAbility to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG workspace within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave)Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSAAbility to travel (including overnight travel) up to 15%Experience managing complex antitrust litigationExperience in antitrust and competition policyExperience with government enforcement and litigation strategy
