National Technician Director

Job Summary: 
The National Technician Director will be responsible for setting and executing a vision for the continuous growth and education of veterinary technicians, ensuring alignment with company goals, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices. The National Technician Director will drive initiatives to optimize technician performance, retention, and job satisfaction and positioning the company as a leader in veterinary care. The primary objectives in this position include, but are not limited to increased associate retention; aid in the improvement of patient care provided by the hospital, Technician, Assistant and Pharmacy Teams; help to fulfill hospital operational goals; maintain consistent and quality information communicated to the hospital teams; support the doctors in an effective and efficient way to enhance their quality of medicine; and increase the number of licensed and certified support staff in our hospitals to provide quality medicine as well as excellent client service.  
 
Responsibilities: 
Leading with Your Head 
Understanding business, solving problems, and making decisions through inclusive contributions of others 
  • Develop strategies to achieve a culture of best practices in all hospitals, defining consistent national standards for nursing and patient care activities. 
  • Establish policies to achieve continuous improvement in the quality of care delivered, focusing on the growth and direction of evidence-based care, improved patient outcomes, increased efficiency and enhanced client experience. 
  • Stay informed of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to veterinary care and technician training. 
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and benchmarks to monitor the effectiveness of technician training and development programs, evaluate clinical care, delivery of services, medical quality staffing, and patient outcomes. 
  • Develop organization-wide recommendations related to scope of VT, VA and Pharmacy best practices and defined standards of veterinary care. 
  • Create and implement standardized protocols and training tools to ensure consistency across all locations.

    Interpersonal aspect of leading with Emotional Intelligence (EQ), effective use of influence, working together constructively and creatively 
    • Collaborate with senior leadership to align technician development goals with company-wide objectives. 
    • Demonstrate leadership that fosters a culture of learning and continuous process improvement within the veterinary technician/assistant team. 
    • Collaborate with the Operations and Talent and Learning functions to ensure technicians across all locations are equipped with cutting-edge skills, training, and support to enhance veterinary care. 
    • Elevate the role of Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants to allow doctors to work at the top of their license.   
    • Develop career progression pathways for technicians, identifying opportunities for growth and specialization within the organization. 

    Leading With Your Hands
     
    The art of bringing people together to leverage their skills, talents, and knowledge to achieve a common purpose with greater results 
    • Collaborate with Talent and Learning in the strategy creation and implementation of competency based educational programs and curricula focused on patient care as well as professional growth for VTs, VA, and Pharmacy Teams. 
    • Collaborate with Operations and Supply Chain to evaluate and standardize equipment and supply choices where appropriate. 
    • Collaborate with Operations, Business Excellence and Business Intelligence to focus on the meaningful and efficient use of Vetspire and other platforms for data capture, aggregation, analysis, and reporting.
    • Supporting organizational goals to help our hospitals provide the best level of care possible.
Key Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology, business management, or a related field (advanced degrees preferred)
  • Veterinary Technician Certification (LVT, RVT, or CVT) is highly desirable
  • 10+ years of experience in veterinary care, with at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing technician teams
  • Proven experience in developing large-scale training and development programs, preferably in a multi-location or national organization
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, with a focus on collaboration and consensus-building
  • Ability to think strategically and execute complex plans effectively
  • Knowledge of veterinary industry standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices
  • Passion for technician education and development, with a commitment to improving patient outcomes through highly skilled veterinary teams
  • Ability to travel frequently (up to 75%) to various company locations across the country
  • Possesses financial intelligence that includes budgeting, forecasting, and Profit & Loss Statements (Income Statements)
