Tire Engineer

SUMMARY

Reporting to the R&D Tire Testing Lead Engineer, the Tire Testing Engineer will work to support all tire testing aspects of the North American R&D Center. The Tire Testing Engineer will support the internal testing operation process and our third-party tire evaluations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Ensure testing results are available by the required due date
  • Review master tire testing reports and report to Lead Engineer if data is out of standard.
  • As part of a team to support testing operations due to testing technician absence or any other reason, as needed.
  • Manage third-party testing, contracts, pricing, internal approval processes, and invoicing and provide timely updates as required on behalf of R&D department engineers and TTR engineers.
  • Develop strong relationships with third-party testing vendors. Evaluate new third-party testing vendors.
  • Develop new testing methods with a third-party testing vendor, if required.
  • Develop a new indoor testing method, if required.
  • Ensure testing equipment is in proper working order, and when necessary support calibrations, maintenance, and repairs including building equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain the yearly budget for internal and third-party testing.
  • Adhere to Company standards and objectives, such as safety, 5S, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct and maintain yearly continuous improvement efforts.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs for testing operations.
  • Strict adherence to all internal compliance standards and compliance with all safety rules and regulations.
  • Effectively communicate with peers, team members, customers, suppliers, and technical staff.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

  • Understand the necessary job tools, equipment, and abilities to complete testing assignments.
  • Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced math skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have proficient PC skills utilizing Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access).
  • Ability to work in a safe manner and follow all Toyo quality and safety standards.
  • Ability to travel 10% - 20% of the time with overnight accommodations, including some weekends

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. 0-2 years of entry-level experience preferred.

$30 - $46 / hr
