Transportation Lead

Job Description

The Transportation Lead will focus on the inbound and outbound global transportation of Agilent Cold-Chain shipments to and from our Cedar Creek, TX Logistics Center as well as shipments to and from our US manufacturing sites in Carpinteria, CA and elsewhere. The role will focus on carrier management and securing competitive rates and service levels, on-time delivery, and defect free shipments, The role will include being the escalation point around shipment delays, perished shipments, expedites, etc.

• Establish and lead the Cedar Creek team to ensure transport needs are met for all sites. Conduct regular meetings to address issues and improve processes. Also, compile and prepare metrics and open issues for quarterly business reviews of carriers.
• Closely monitor transit times with carriers and within SAP to ensure they align, including annual SOX transit time audit. Includes PDT/Route Transit reviews.
• Maintain carrier rates with all carriers. Ensure rate cards are comprehensive and accurate.
• Utilize your transportation expertise to find and determine or otherwise lead freight savings projects to reduce freight costs and optimize shipping. Also, report on savings projects including global transport projects.
• Report on regular transport spend including freight forecast to Finance.
• Conduct / participate in RFI-s and RFQ to choose transport carriers to ensure there are competitive rates and backup carriers in all lanes. Includes writing the RFQ document and statement of work (SOW), conducting cost analysis, and determining potential savings.
• Maintain the inbound routing guide (IBRG) to ensure optimized transportation cost and service for inbound freight.
• Understand the needs of internal customers and suppliers concerning standard communication methodologies, supported configurations, and virtualization options.
• Support Procurement with transport cost modeling as needed.
• Lead IT and related business process teams to implement new carriers into our ERP system as needed.
• Ensure Agilent transport carriers send required info regularly such as transit reports and electronic POD details to meet the team-s needs.
• Ensure process documents are up to date such as SOPs with carriers for all sites, how to request a rate quote, etc.

Qualifications

Requirements:

Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• 4 years of proven experience in transportation logistics operations.
• Understanding of all carrier modes and overall transportation procurement with SOW-s, RFQ-s and RFP-s.
• Cold-Chain shipments, dry ice, dangerous goods certification.
• Experience with WMS and transportation modules and services.
• Basic leadership skills and the ability to design and document processes.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated team leadership skills.
• Ability to effectively communicate with various levels of management.
