At Tutored by Teachers (TbT), we are on a mission to advance equity in education. We believe that when you put a teacher in front of a student, magic happens. Backed by some of the biggest names in EdTech venture including GSV, A-Street Ventures, and TMV, we are on a mission to close the opportunity gap and need a talented and motivated Account Executive to join our team. As an Account Executive at TbT, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on student outcomes by bringing our virtual academic support programs to schools, districts, and charter networks across the country.

The Role:

We're currently looking for a passionate, driven Account Executive to join our Sales team. We’ve already built relationships with some of the largest school districts in the United States, and we’re ready to start scaling our offerings even further!

In this role, your core job duties will include:

  • Owning the end-to-end sales cycle, from identifying and prospecting new district partners and stakeholders all the way through negotiating contracts and closing deals.
  • Building and maintaining a healthy pipeline of new opportunities.
  • Developing and executing strategic sales plans to meet and exceed sales targets.
  • Consulting with school administrators to understand their exact needs, and demonstrating how our services can support both their students and teachers.
  • Conducting presentations and product demonstrations to key decision-makers.
  • Constantly evaluating and refining your sales process and methodologies to identify potential areas of improvement or close knowledge gaps.
  • Developing processes for identifying at-risk deals and working across departments to mitigate concerns.
  • Using the knowledge gained through conversations with leads and new clients to help the Tutored by Teachers team continue to refine our product further. Communicating with other members of the Tutored by Teacher about
  • Collaborating with the Customer Success team and other departments across the organization to ensure successful onboarding and implementation of new clients, and to establish meaningful and trusted relationships within TbT.
  • Staying up-to-date with market trends and competitor activities
  • Traveling as needed to conferences or partner schools.

There’s no such thing as a perfect candidate—if you read the qualifications below and feel like you’d excel in this role, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t match 100% of the qualifications. Traits that we’ve found are strong indicators of success in this role include:

  • Previous administrative experience at the school or district level (i.e. experience as a Principal, Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent, etc.). This is probably the trait we value most highly; selling to school administration often involves being able to closely understand the challenges that school districts face. We’ve found that AEs with experience in admin have found the most success.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. You’ll be speaking regularly with school administrators: over email, conference calls, and occasionally in person. Being able to clearly and concisely communicate in writing and speech is vital to this role.
  • The ability to build trust and rapport. People buy from those they trust and like. We’re looking for someone who embodies compassion, warmth, and friendliness.
  • A desire to learn and grow. Maybe you’re always listening to a new sales podcast, or reading a new book. Whatever the case, you find genuine joy in learning and improving, demonstrated by your curiosity and willingness to explore new ideas and concepts.
  • The ability to pivot and adapt. Tutored by Teachers is a startup, and that means that what you do right now might not be exactly what you’re doing in 6 months. To succeed in this role, that should not only be expected, it should sound exciting. We’re looking for someone scrappy: someone who can dive in and start problem-solving wherever needed, and who genuinely enjoys it when solutions aren’t immediately obvious.
  • Success in sales, especially education or service-related sales. Ideally, we’re looking for someone who already has 3+ years of proven success in sales, especially if you’ve worked in edtech or (even better) in service sales—Tutored by Teachers is tech-enabled, but ultimately we’re selling tutoring services, which can be different than selling SaaS. However, we most value candidates who are quick on their feet and motivated to learn and develop, so if you tick the other boxes but don’t have as much sales experience as desired, please apply anyway.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Business, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience working remotely or in a virtual sales environment. Working remotely is incredibly fulfilling, but can be a tricky transition to make at first. Ideally, you'll have some experience with remote work.
  • A passion for education and closing the opportunity gap. We believe passionately in our mission to ensure that every child has the resources they need to succeed. We want every one of our employees to believe in that mission, too.
