Position Description
We are looking for a Senior Research Associate to join our US Beverages/Snacks/Household & Personal Products team in New York, covering companies such as Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Procter & Gamble, and Estée Lauder. If you are a natural leader, have a passion for research, and are interested in building a long-term career in the investing world, there’s no better place than Bernstein. We seek candidates who love to solve problems, analyze data, and are passionate about in-depth fundamental analysis. We offer a unique opportunity to become an industry expert as you work alongside a Senior Analyst who is an industry veteran and will mentor and develop you. These roles offer a path to more senior roles within Bernstein and our parent company AB.
Our Senior Research Associates play an important role in producing the research Bernstein is famous for: unbiased, independent, thematic, collaborative, data-driven, and always differentiated. You will develop relationships across the investing community and over time become a thought partner to our clients. You will work closely with your team but also have a high degree of autonomy and independence. You will do in-depth analysis of the trends, controversies, and transformations impacting this important consumer sector, including consumer preferences, eCommerce, competitive dynamics, fast-growing disruptors, and ESG.
As a Senior Research Associate, you will:
Develop sector expertise working one-on-one with a Senior Analyst who is a seasoned industry expert
Become highly proficient at in-depth analysis of your companies, stocks, and industry themes
Author written research that is famous for its deep industry insights and analytical rigor, including our signature Blackbook product
Become adept at financial forecasting, including building detailed forward-looking models
Build strong relationships across the investing community including our sales and trading teams and institutional clients
Build a network within your industry including senior management of your companies
We have an outstanding Associate program and make a strong commitment to your development. Our culture is intellectually rigorous, but also very collegial and fun. We have robust learning and development programs as well as annual offsite events. We offer a flexible work schedule, but our in-office environment is very active. Our Senior Associates are highly involved in (and often lead) our firm’s cultural initiatives, ranging from health & wellness, community service, mentoring, employee resource groups, social events, and Associate leadership.
What we look for
Our Senior Research Associates often have advanced degrees and track records of outstanding academic performance. For research roles, we look for evidence of thought leadership, analytical rigor, and a differentiated approach to solving problems. We look carefully at your academic background as well as your prior work experience for evidence of the following:
Excellent broad-based analytical skills
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
Strong quantitative backgrounds and ability to work with data sets, including engineering, math and science degrees
Relentless intellectual curiosity - our signature strength
In addition, the following are helpful:
An MBA or Master’s degree in Finance
Credentials such as CFA, ACA or CPA
For our Asia offices: verbal and written fluency in Asian languages preferred
If you love solving problems and analyzing data, Bernstein could be a great fit for you. We provide an intellectually challenging but supportive environment for careers in investment research and look for leaders who are also team players with exceptional communication skills. These are typically three-to-five-year positions with outstanding growth potential. Our Associate positions have historically been excellent platforms for advancement to Senior Analyst roles with your own coverage, or successful investing careers at our clients as well as our parent company AB.
How to apply
Please submit a cover letter (we read them carefully, as our roles are writing-intensive) and resume to both researchopenings@bernstein.com and to AB Careers at www.abglobal.com/careers. Please specify your preferred office location in your cover letter; you may be considered for multiple offers simultaneously. Also, please include any relevant academic grades and test scores. We look forward to learning more about you!
