Summary of Job Duties:

The Assistant Director of Transition Programs & Initiatives is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing programs that support the successful transition of sophomore and junior students at the University of Arkansas. This role focuses on creating holistic and engaging experiences for students during their critical second and third years, ensuring their academic, social, and personal growth. The Assistant Director will identify emerging needs and trends among sophomore and junior students and develop responsive programming accordingly.

The position will produce comprehensive transition programs for sophomores and juniors, addressing academic, career, and personal development in collaboration with campus partners, faculty, and staff. In addition, the Assistant Director will collect and analyze data related to sophomore and junior student experiences, including retention rates, academic performance, and engagement in transition programs to inform programmatic improvements and strategic planning efforts. The Assistant Director will also assist with departmental programs focused on class-year initiatives and community building.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in student affairs, higher education administration or related field conferred by the start of employment

  • At least one year of relevant experience working in college orientation, transition, or retention programming

  • Experience planning and implementing programs for undergraduate college students

  • Experience supervising undergraduate student leaders in paid and volunteer positions

Applicable equivalencies may be considered for the above qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience fostering collaborations with academic departments, student organizations, campus offices, and external stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness and reach of transition programs and initiatives

  • At least two or more years of relevant experience working directly with students in higher education/college student personnel services or related field at the coordinator, assistant director, or similar level

  • Direct experience developing and evaluating transition programs on a college campus

  • Experience collecting and analyzing data related to the academic and social success of college students

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Knowledge of Student Development Theory 

  • Knowledge of event planning and evaluation 

  • Time management and organizational skills 

  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills 


Additional Information:

This position is renewable annually based on continued need for the position, availability of funding, and satisfactory job performance.


Salary Information:

$55,526 (Commensurate with education and experience)
