Summary of Job Duties:

The Graduate Assistant for the Path Program works with the Honors College Assistant Dean and Director of the Path Program. The Honors College Path Program prepares exceptional high school students from underrepresented populations to excel at the University of Arkansas. The graduate student will also develop communication skills and broaden their understanding of the competitive arena of high achieving student recruitment.

In addition, the position offers a broad overview of academics, undergraduate research, study abroad, and competitive fellowships and scholarships. Because the Honors College works with all of the academic units, the Division of Enrollment Services, the Academic Scholarship Office, University Housing, and the Alumni Association, this position affords the opportunity to develop partnerships across the campus community.

Aside from the Path Program responsibilities, a valid driver’s license and a willingness for some recruitment travel are essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills, organization, initiative, teamwork experience, and a commitment to academic excellence within a diverse learning community.

Key duties include:

Work with the Director and Associate Director on logistics for Path programming for current students, including monthly group meetings that focus on academic and personal development, semester retreats, the annual celebration, and the peer mentoring program

Serve as an individual mentor and resource for current Path scholars

Participate in unit workgroup and strategic planning for the Path Program, especially as it relates to the student experience

Advise the Path Student Advisory Committee

Assist with both the application and interview processes for the Path Program

Participate in key recruitment initiatives, including (but not limited to):

Giving tours of Hotz Honors Hall to prospective students and their families

Meeting 1:1 with prospective students and families that visit campus

Presenting to high school classes on behalf of the Honors College

Attending college fairs on behalf of the Honors College

Engaging current honors students to get involved with recruitment efforts

Helping implement large-scale programs for prospective students interested in the Honors College

Reviewing fellowship applications

Other duties as assigned

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree at the start date of employment
  • Experience working with students from diverse/underrepresented groups  
  • Student leadership experience in extracurricular or other undergraduate activities
  • Willingness and ability to work some evenings and weekends
  • Willingness for some recruitment travel
  • Valid Driver's License
