Job Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Alumni Relations and Development (ARD) and working closely with the Dean of the Harris School of Public Policy, the Director of Development will play a key leadership role within the Harris ARD team. The Director will manage a team of professionals overseeing leadership annual giving, reunion programming, donor relations, and stewardship. The Director will work closely with the Director of Alumni Relations to establish a holistic strategy in alignment with developing the philanthropic pipeline.

Support the Associate Dean of Alumni Relations and Development in establishing long-range goals and objectives for development programs and activities that reflect the priorities of Harris, as described by the Dean. This position will have direct responsibility for fundraising and leadership engagement and oversee all aspects of the Harris School’s stewardship, annual fund, and reunion volunteer management.

Responsibilities

  • Actively manage a portfolio of 100+ gift prospects.
  • Engage and solicit donors for support at all giving levels.
  • Individually, and in-collaboration with Senior leadership, solicit ten $100,000+ gifts each fiscal year.
  • Utilize University resources effectively to creatively partner with other units on campus.
  • Create a strategy and vision to engage and solicit our international alumni community.
  • Manage and provide a vision for the giving society at the Harris School – the Harris Society – developing a multi-faceted marketing strategy focused both on donor stewardship and new donor acquisition.
  • Help direct strategy and oversee the recruitment and management of alumni reunion committees.
  • Oversee the management and vision of all Giving Day, Giving Tuesday, and direct mail calendar and communications.
  • Oversee all the coordination of the Dean’s interaction with current and prospective donors for engagement, solicitation, and stewardship purposes.
  • Manage the print and digital communication materials for current and prospective donors.
  • Direct gift and acknowledgement processing, reporting, and data analysis of donor and dollar annual performance.
  • Establishes fundraising goals and priorities based on department objectives, designs strategies to meet those goals, and monitors progress against goals. Manages a portfolio of current and potential donors.
  • Identifies, analyzes, and qualifies donor interest to maximize giving. Assists with overall planning efforts for the University's most important prospects. Works independently to develop communication strategies for projects, including publications and public presentations.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.

  • Bachelor's degree.

Experience:

  • A minimum of seven years of experience in nonprofit management, development, alumni relations, marketing, public relations, sales, or similar professional work experience.
  • Experience working with database management.
  • Proven experience in leading a project.
  • Experience leading a team or developing and coaching staff.
  • Familiarity with fundraising strategies within higher education.
