The Hsu Lab within the Medical & Imaging Informatics group in the David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM) Department of Radiological Sciences develops innovative artificial intelligence/machine learning algorithms that augment radiologists' ability to integrate multimodal clinical and imaging data to improve diagnostic accuracy.
Under the supervision of Dr.
William Hsu, the Junior Data Scientist will work on an artificial intelligence project in breast cancer in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of breast imaging faculty members, staff, and graduate students.
The objective is to extract meaningful and actionable insights from breast ultrasounds.
In this role, you will design data processing pipelines that process data from multiple sources to identify image-derived features predictive of invasive breast cancer.
You will assist with data annotation, data wrangling, implementation of classifiers using machine learning techniques, validation and updating of these classifiers to ensure optimal performance, and implementation of a platform to automate these tasks.

), or equivalent combination of education and experienceFamiliarity with programming for data analysis, including Python, SQL, and/or RExperience building, querying, and modifying relational databases such as My SQL or PostgresWorking knowledge of software development principles and architectureDemonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities in the context of analyzing large, real-world datasets that may contain inconsistent, missing, and/or conflicting information, with prior experience working with medical images a plusExperience using quantitative methods to break down and understand complex problems, define a solution, and implement itSkilled at oral and written communication with prior experience in giving presentations, writing technical reports, and documenting code, and presenting technical concepts and results in a manner that is understandable to other technical and non-technical stakeholdersFamiliarity and experience working in breast imaging and breast ultrasound images are a plus.
