Position Summary:

The Buyer role will be an integral member of the Ultragenyx Finance team.  This individual will manage procurement activities for all the Ultragenyx departments of the Gene Therapy Manufacturing Facility in Bedford. The scope of procurement is mainly raw materials, single use systems and packaging.

A successful candidate must have strong analytical capabilities, be a self-starter, have procurement experience within the pharmaceutical/life sciences industry, the ability to collaborate cross-functionally to resolve procure-to-pay issues, and be curious about the technology, the science of gene therapy.  The candidate will be a creative problem solver who is passionate about delivering outstanding customer service to all customers, internal or external.  This position reports to the Procurement Director.

Work Model: 

Flex: This role will typically require onsite work 2-3 days each week, or more depending on business needs. In many locations, the business will set certain days each week that Flex employees are required to be onsite.

 

Responsibilities:

  • The buyer will review purchase requisitions and convert them to purchase orders ensuring data accuracy
  • Perform data analysis on supplier spend and recommend cost saving proposals
  • Assist with employee training on iProcurement requisition system
  • Buyer will assist with the administration of the corporate RFP process and progressively lead some RFP for the site. Activities may include supplier sourcing, facilitating bids, and bid analysis and supplier management.
  • The buyer will assist in high stake negotiations and will gradually take the lead on some projects.
  • The buyer will be a liaison for procure-to-pay issues working with Accounts Payable and internal customers to ensure timeliness of vendor payments and swift resolution of problem PO’s and invoices
  • Maintain and promote strong relationships with all internal customers
  • Proactively seek and deliver improved processes and tools which enhance productivity, lower costs, improve efficiency and better support the business
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or equivalent experience required
  • 3-5 years of procurement related experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device industry preferred
  • Demonstrated excellent analytical and problem solving skills are a must
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting, internal controls, and SOX principles preferred
  • Ability to build strong relationships with internal management, vendors and business unit leaders
  • Direct but civil temperament and presence that inspires confidence in others
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Intermediate Excel Skills – Pivot tables, VLookup, Etc
  • Experience in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment a plus
  • Experience working with Oracle R12 and iProcurement a plus
  • CPIM/CPM certification a plus #LI-CK1  #LI-Hybrid
