United Field Services (UFS) is a Glendale-based prop-tech company that runs maintenance, inspections, and vendor management for single-family rentals and REO assets. We’re rebuilding our back-end to handle heavier data loads, faster integrations, and upcoming AI features—your senior expertise will set the direction.
What You’ll Do (On-Site 2–3 days / 16–24 hrs per week)
- Architect & maintain core APIs in PHP (Laravel or similar) and Java (Spring Boot).
- Design and optimize databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL); write migration and seeding scripts.
- Drive performance & security—profiling, caching layers, SQL tuning, JWT/OAuth, RBAC.
- Own CI/CD: Docker, GitHub Actions, automated test suites (PHPUnit, JUnit).
- Integrate third-party services (Twilio, Stripe, AWS S3, internal ML endpoints).
- Mentor mid-level devs through code reviews and pair-programming.
- Influence architecture and tech-stack decisions as we scale microservices.

- Microservices, Kubernetes, or AWS ECS/EKS.
- Property, logistics, or fintech platform background.
- Exposure to Python/ML pipelines (helps with our AI roadmap).
Schedule & Compensation
- Type: Part-time W-2 or 1099.
- Hours: 16–24 per week, weekdays within 8 am–5 pm PT.
- Pay: $55–$65/hr DOE, plus performance bonuses.

Must-Haves
- 5+ years senior-level back-end experience in both PHP and Java.
- Advanced OOP, SOLID, design-pattern chops; proven REST & RPC API design.
- Expert SQL skills—normalization, indexing, query optimization on large datasets.
- Pro with Git, Docker, Linux CLI; comfortable writing CI pipelines.
- Able to work on-site in Glendale at least 16 hrs/week; strong English communication
