This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $77,900 - $143,300. The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $87,000 - $105,000. Job Closing Date This position is approved for a "hybrid" work modality. We will consider a "remote" arrangement provided we find an exceptionally well-qualified candidate who lives within a 150 mile radius of campus. About the Job We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) Developer and Database Architect to join our dynamic team. This role combines two critical functions within our organization, focusing on the seamless management of data extraction, transformation, and loading processes as well as the architectural design and optimization of our operational data store and enterprise data warehouse. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring our data infrastructure's availability, reliability, and performance, contributing to the success of UC Merced's data-driven initiatives Key Responsibilities: ETL Development: Design, develop, and maintain ETL processes to efficiently extract data from various sources, transform it to meet business requirements, and load it into data warehouses or data stores. Collaborate with data analysts, business users, and other stakeholders to understand data integration needs and requirements. Optimize ETL workflows to improve data quality, accuracy, and efficiency. Monitor and troubleshoot ETL jobs to ensure data integrity and consistency. Act as a subject matter expert in ETL and database architecture, offering guidance and mentorship to junior team members. Database Architecture: Design, implement, and maintain database architectures that align with the organization's data strategy and business goals. Perform capacity planning, scalability assessments, and database performance tuning to ensure optimal database operations. Evaluate and recommend database technologies, tools, and platforms to support evolving data needs. Ensure data security, compliance, and disaster recovery strategies are effectively implemented in database systems. Collaborate with development teams to integrate. Data Modeling and Documentation, Communication and Collaboration: Develop and maintain data models, schema designs, and data dictionaries for various databases. Document database architecture, ETL processes, and data flow diagrams for knowledge sharing and compliance purposes. Provide guidance and support to data modeling efforts across the organization. Work closely with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, data scientists, business analysts, and OIT team members. Communicate technical concepts and solutions effectively to non-technical stakeholders. Data Privacy, Security, and Governance: Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., FERPA, IS3) by developing and enforcing data protection policies. Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to manage data access permissions, masking, and encryption. Administer on-premises and cloud-based databases security, role-based access control (RBAC), managing load operation, performance, computing and storage management, data replication and data sharing. Evaluate and implement data governance tools and platforms to support data management and compliance efforts. Maintain a comprehensive data catalog that documents data assets, lineage, and metadata; define metadata standards and ensure consistent metadata tagging across the organization. Stay current with industry trends and best practices in data governance technology. LI-RM1 Qualifications Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, information systems or related field from an accredited institution (required); or Advanced master's degree in related field (preferred); and Two years of progressively responsible-related experience or equivalent experience/training (required). At least 2 years' experience in data warehouse using in database analytics and real-time functions. Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Snowflake) is a plus. Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Data Analytics, Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer, Snowflake: SnowPro Core Certification ) are advantageous. Previous experience with higher education and ERP software systems such as Banner, PeopleSoft, or similar ERP systems (preferred). Solid working knowledge of advanced analytics and business intelligence concepts such as data analysis, ETL, data warehousing, data lake, enterprise big data platforms, reporting, visualization and dashboards. Proven experience as an ETL Developer and Database Architect with a track record of successful project implementations. Background Check Background check required.
