Data Engineer I - Licensing

Kelp builds and maintains enterprise data products for Spotify’s industry partners – record labels, audiobooks publishers, etc., providing data that becomes the heartbeat of the audio industry. As part of the licensing team, we serve an important role in ensuring that Spotify has the content rights needed to launch new products and grow profitably. Join us and you’ll help build the next generation of industry data products.


What You'll Do
  • Scope, build, and improve data pipelines and API infrastructure.
  • Process terabytes of data from Spotify’s 100s of millions of users and billions of daily audio streams.
  • Work with data processing frameworks, technologies, and platforms such as Scala, Scio, Java, Flink, and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Improve data and API quality through testing, tooling and continuously evaluating performance.
  • Share responsibility for on-call monitoring and incident handling for production systems.
  • Collaborate with other software engineers, data scientists, and product owners.
  • Gain deep insight into the mechanics of the music and audiobooks industries.


Who You Are
  • Understanding of system design, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Experience building backend services.
  • Familiar with current data engineering practices and are curious about new technologies that help derive insights and value from data.
  • Value quality and know what it means to ship high quality code.
  • T-Shaped is a plus. You have experience in data science, front end or data visualization.
  • You take on loosely defined problems and thrive when working on a team which has autonomy in their day to day decisions.
  • You have a Bachelors or Masters Degree in a relevant field of studies.

  • We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! For this role, you can be within the North American time zone as long as we have a work location.


The United States base range for this position is $ 100,705 - $ 143,865, plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, a monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays. These ranges may be modified in the future.
