Under the guidance of the Director of Creative services within the Office of Strategic Marketing and Communications, this position designs and develops original, high-quality graphic design content to support university goals for the recruitment, retention, and reputation of the university for different audiences including traditional undergraduate, graduate, adult learners, administration, and campus partners.The Graphic Designer works in a fast paced environment to produce multiple projects simultaneously and perform under tight deadlines. This individual is a strategic storyteller that engages, informs, and inspires prospective student and campus constituents far and wide with creative designs that resonate and push the University of La Vernebeyond a 55-mile radius.Minimum Qualifications Must have a Bachelors degree in graphic design, or related field, or equivalent combination.Two years of professional work experience as a designer, multimedia designer, or marketing communications professional.Minimum of two years experience with creative concept development, design planning, art/ photo direction , and multimedia design.Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesignAbility to package files for print production.Ability to meet deadlines and stay within project scope and budget in a fast-paced, Deadline driven work environment.Ability to follow established processes for editing, reviewing ,and finalizing projects within project management software.Preferred Qualifications Ability to contribute ideas for marketing campaigns based on insights and brand identity.Web and motion design experience.Excellent Visual and verbal presentation skills.Benefits Summary Applicants, please note that actual compensation is determined by several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, certifications, relevant education or training, and specific work location, among others. The offered wage or salary is only one aspect of an employee's total compensationBenefits include a comprehensive health and wellness plan, tuition remission program for employee, spouse, and dependent children, a generous contribution to the University's 403B retirement plan, and a generous time off plan.Employment is contingent upon successful completion and clearance of a background check and employment verification.Location La Verne Main Campus Number of VacanciesDuties Specific Duties Concept, develop, and produce graphics, illustrations, and other creative materials for print, web, social, and other digital platforms that is on-brand, reinforces our status and reputation, and is appropriate for our various audiences.Research and study ideas related to each project; conceptualize original work to communicate intent of project. Iterate designs based on feedback from team members or campus partners. Determine size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy, select style and size of type, choose color/s and arranges layout based upon available space.Perform quality control on all designs, ensuring the creative aligns with brand guidelines and university standards. Prepare initial rough drafts and present ideas to internal stakeholders.Percentage Of Time 35 Specific Duties Study design request briefs and determine requirements. Collaborate with Office of Strategic Marketing and Communications colleagues (Communications, Marketing, and Operations), and campus partners to understand the objective of each campaign and project.Obtain input from MarComm leadership to ensure designs meet branding standards, express ideas and messaging accurately, and represent the university appropriately with strategic initiatives. Meet with campus partners as needed to determine needs, budget and deadlines; communicates with project manager to discuss changes and finalize projects.Percentage Of Time 20 Specific Duties Coordinate and assist with print production services, including working with print vendors, preparing files to print specifications, preparing files for final production, and reviewing design proofs.Complete pre-press check by ensuring colors and saturation are exact, overlap properly and do not leave gaps, and ensure inks are solid and in the correct place.Percentage Of Time 10 Specific Duties Attend photo shoots to provide art direction.Update and maintain internal shared drive as designs, photography, and video as assets are produced.Percentage Of Time 10 Specific Duties Stay relevant by researching graphic design and visual communication best practices within and outside of the higher education industry.
