Grade 5 (Salaried).Position Description:The Risk Management Specialist I position with the Vice President, Risk, Audit and Compliance department primary function of this position is to manage the daily handling of the University's claims and litigation. This entails communicating with university departments, insurance agents, insurance carrier representatives, claims adjusters, and loss control personnel. This position will also act as backup for the Director of Enterprise Risk, in answering claim inquiries, and insurance coverage questions.Essential Duties and Responsibilities• Manage the daily operations associated with the University's claims and litigation including but not limited to; determining coverage possibilities, determining which insurance coverages may apply, building claim/litigation information, investigation of claim incidents, and settlement negotiations. Act as lead on all claims by communicating with stakeholders, including but not limited to, legal counsel, university department contacts, external claim adjusters, and insurance carrier loss control personnel. In a timely manner successful adjudicate and resolve claims protecting the University's interests. Identify subrogation potential and pursue subrogation when necessary. Complete monthly enterprise-wide site surveys and risk assessments based on claims trends, potential risks and ERM process.• Manage the property, casualty, workers compensation, and all other lines of coverage claim files. Build claim histories, generate trend reports from both paper and electronic information; update and provide Director of Enterprise Risk with claim and trend reports; loss analysis, root cause analysis, and other reports as directed.• Manage the daily processing and monitoring of Workers' Compensation claims for the University. Prepare monthly status reports, evaluate current status of claims, evaluate claims for trends and make recommendations for addressing those trends to the Director of Enterprise Risk. Develop, implement, monitor training programs support implemented by the Department of Enterprise Risk & Insurance, including working with University stakeholders, insurance adjuster and loss control professionals.• Maintain and monitor the claims data through Cardbox, Excel, Onbase, etc. and stay current on claims software available for use in the insurance and risk management field.• Provide assistance to the Director of Enterprise Risk with Insurance annual renewals, RFP's and/or other departmental projects. Also assist in reviewing insurance policy language and other industry standards or trends.• Provide backup assistance to the Vice President for Risk Audit and Compliance, as necessary, in the Director of Enterprise Risk's absence.• All other duties as assigned.This position is a Hybrid work position that will work both remotely and on campus.
