Medical Assistant - DermatologyJob SummaryThis position provides assistive care to patients in ourDermatology clinics. The incumbent facilitates the efficientdelivery of patient care, supports the professional role of thelicensed staff, and provides support and assistance as directed bylicensed staff in rendering basic healthcare to the patient. Thisposition also assists with clerical functions as a multi-skilledauxiliary worker. This position may be required to access andadminister medications within their scope of practice and accordingto State Law.This position may travel to multiple locations, including ourMidvalley clinic in Murray and pediatric clinics in Salt Lake andLehi.ResponsibilitiesEssential FunctionsPrepares patients for examinations and diagnostic proceduresaccording to clinic procedures such as recording temperatures,pulse rate, blood pressure and responses to standardized medicalhistory questions.Sets up for and assists with clinical procedures in including skinbiopsies, excisions, allergy testing, etc.Reports all observed patient concerns and changes in condition to alicensed staff member.Performs Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) WavedLab tests as identified by department and reports results to theappropriate personnel. May perform patient phlebotomy in accordancewith clinic procedures and physician orders after specializedtraining.Performs additional skills such as suture removal and injections(IM, Subq and intra-dermal).Acts as a chaperone for health care providers during patientexamination as requested and assists with procedures.Monitors and cleans assigned patient examination rooms, unit areasand unit equipment reporting outdated supplies, stock levels andrestock set levels of items and necessary equipment repairs.Answers telephones, forwards telephone messages and under thedirection of licensed staff schedules appointments, procedures anddiagnostic tests.Assists in routine clerical functions such as filing of medicalinformation in patient's records, locating and compiling departmentcharts, obtaining medical records from other providers and enteringcharges for billing purposes.Attends and completes mandatory education including infectionprevention and control, safety, CPR, equipment usage and proceduresaccording to hospital and department policies.Assists in patient and family education by providing educationalmaterial and general health information to patients and familymembers.May instruct in Basic Life Support (BLS) requirements.May perform other duties based on department assigned.Knowledge / Skills / AbilitiesAbility to perform the essential functions of the job as outlinedabove.Demonstrated phlebotomy skills.Demonstrated human relation and effective communicationskills.Demonstrated proficiency in the specific clinic's specialty skillswithin six weeks of hire. *Specialty skills may not be performeduntil after the new hire completed basic competency testing.Ability to withstand the physical demand of being on your feet forlong periods of time, of moving and lifting patients and ofreaching for and handling equipment.Minimum QualificationsRequired:• Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through theUniversity of Utah Health RQI system.
