The Team

Join a High-Impact, High-Visibility Team Driving Upstart’s Capital Strategy

At the forefront of Upstart’s success, the Investor Analytics team plays a pivotal role in securing capital—a critical function that powers our business. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role where you’ll collaborate across the organization to deliver the analytical insights and technical capabilities that drive data-informed decision-making.

As a Staff Data Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in influencing Upstart’s success. Partnering closely with our Capital Markets and Lending Partnership teams, you’ll work directly with some of the top institutional capital providers in the industry, helping them leverage Upstart’s cutting-edge technology to achieve their business goals. You’ll drive insights into loan credit and financial performance while contributing to the structuring of bespoke capital deals that meet the unique needs of upstart and our partners. This is a high-visibility opportunity to collaborate with industry leaders, shape strategic decisions, and make a meaningful impact on the growth and innovation of a company reshaping the future of lending.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Exciting, high-impact, mid senior level role: Work closely with Capital Markets and Lending Partnership teams to shape Upstart’s capital strategy. You’ll engage directly with capital investors to showcase the strength of Upstart’s platform, build lasting confidence, and craft tailored capital solutions that drive innovation and growth
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work hand-in-hand with Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Product, Engineering, and Finance teams to shape credit metrics, craft compelling narratives, and develop financial forecasts, driving alignment on the state of the Upstart platform.
  • Shape Strategic Influence: Drive impactful decisions within Upstart’s credit platform and the investor/lending community by identifying opportunities, evaluating risks, and leveraging deep insights
  • Build Credit Intelligence Infrastructure: Develop foundational financial models, data pipelines, and automated reporting systems to deliver powerful, dynamic insights and enable strategic decision-making.
  • Lead and Inspire: Mentor junior team members while fostering a culture of excellence in data, credit, and analytics, positioning the team as a hub of expertise and innovation.

What we’re looking for: 

Minimum qualifications:

  • Extensive Industry Experience: Over 8 years of professional growth and proven success in the technology and financial sectors, showcasing a deep understanding of industry dynamics and innovation.
  • Advanced Analytical Expertise: Strong background in credit analytics, valuation, and quantitative financial model development, with hands-on proficiency in Python, R, and SQL for data-driven decision-making.
  • Data-Driven Decision-Making: Expertise in working with large datasets, data modeling, and building robust data pipelines, utilizing tools like Databricks, DBT, Looker, Snowflake, and Redshift to deliver actionable insights.
  • Strong Academic Foundation: Degree in Economics, Statistics, Engineering, Data Science, or other quantitative fields, providing a solid grounding in analytical and problem-solving skills essential for success

Preferred qualifications:

  • Proven Cross-Functional Collaboration: Exceptional track record of building strong partnerships with cross-functional teams, particularly in Finance, Product, Data Engineering, and Machine Learning, to align on strategy and drive impactful outcomes.
  • Executive-Level Storytelling: Skilled at translating complex business and performance insights into compelling, executive-ready narratives, using data visualization tools like Tableau, PowerBI, or Looker to influence and drive strategic decisions at the C-suite level.
  • Deep Industry Expertise: Extensive experience in consumer lending strategy, with a strong background in consumer credit capital markets, private credit, or structured products, enabling informed decision-making and innovative approaches to credit strategy.

Travel requirements - As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely within the United States. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites. The in-person sessions’ cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet once or twice per quarter for 2-4 consecutive days at a time

At Upstart, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package.  The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location–with our “digital first” philosophy, Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

In addition, Upstart provides employees with target bonuses, equity compensation, and generous benefits packages (including medical, dental, vision, and 401k).
