Over the last decade, USNI News has grown into the largest newsroom in the U.S. covering naval and maritime issues, and is the independent daily news website of the United States Naval Institute - a non-partisan, educational nonprofit located at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. We are seeking a managing editor with line and copy editing experience to work with our global freelance contributors, edit and package our newsletters and special editions, and elevate our staff writers’ feature coverage. This role will also help with daily and weekly planning for our coverage and help post stories on the website. The role is mostly remote but requires occasional travel to Washington, D.C., and Annapolis, MD.

Over the past decade, USNI News has evolved into the largest newsroom in the country focused on these crucial topics, and now we need a proactive Managing Editor to steer our editorial direction. You'll be collaborating with global freelance contributors, enhancing newsletters and special editions, and helping our talented staff writers craft compelling features. Daily and weekly planning will be vital as you coordinate our coverage and manage story postings on our website. Bring your line and copy editing prowess to elevate our publication even further! While the majority of your work will be remote, expect occasional travel to Washington, D.C., and Annapolis for meetings and events. If you have a four-year college degree, ideally with a background in military or national security journalism, and three to five years of experience in daily news or magazines, we'd love to see your application.
