Purpose

The Financial Analyst will administer the financial operations for the Black Studies units including day-to-day transactions, micro and macro budgeting for units, and related tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Process financial transactions for payments and reimbursements including travel, purchasing, and vendor payments. Coordinate transaction processing with Centralized Business Services staff to ensure prompt payment to vendors. Manage and utilize departmental accounting database to track account transactions against budgeted items. Prepare, maintain, and produce regular reports concerning the annual operating macro-budgets for the Black Studies units. Meet regularly with unit heads to discuss budgets and make recommendations based on current and upcoming activities.

  • Recommend internal financial policies and procedures for implementation by the Department Manager and maintain compliance with UT and COLA policies and procedures. Coordinate with Department Manager on account information and financial management. Reconcile state and local accounts monthly and annually.

  • Maintain detailed records of financial processing. Faculty research tracking/oversight. Prepare and maintain project and/or faculty-specific micro budgets within each unit, including start-up and research allocations from units. Produce regular reports of spending and balance remaining.

  • Work with faculty and staff to manage the programming and activity budgets available and provide recommendations based on spending. Manage funding sources committed from external units.

  • Student HR: Process new and continuing student hires for academic and non-academic jobs in Workday. Process submitted time sheets for payroll activities in Workday. Record wages against appropriate budgets. Work and meet regularly with Department Manager to manage special projects.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration. At least five years of related experience in increasingly complex financial processing or accounting. Experience with generating simple and complex financial reports including annual and project budgets. Advanced proficiency in spreadsheet software. Experience in processing business expenses for a business or established unit. Strong work ethic. Ability to think critically and take initiative to develop guidelines. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than the required five years in related experience in financial processing or accounting. Knowledge of University of Texas accounting and expense processing practices. Knowledge of University of Texas account types and rules regarding use. Experience using DEFINE. Experience with FileMaker Pro database and business expense tracking software. Experience with using Workday for HR and payroll operations.

Employment Eligibility:
