Store Design Coordinator

We started Van Leeuwen Ice Cream in a yellow truck on the streets of NYC in 2008 with a mission to make good ice cream that makes you feel good.

Nowadays, people can spend so much time on what’s “healthy” they don’t stop to consider what’s healthy. As far as we’re concerned, happiness is healthiness. We strive to ensure every scoop, store and employee feels and creates one community to contribute to the overall brand.

Van Leeuwen is looking for a Store Design Coordinator to join our Store Development team. You will work closely with the growing team at Van Leeuwen Ice Cream as we embark on our next stage of accelerated growth. This role will work closely with the Senior Manager, Design + Development to support store designs for future Van Leeuwen scoop shops and renovations. 

This role will be based out of our Williamsburg, Brooklyn office and follow Van Leeuwen's Hybrid work model and be in office at least two to three days a week. 

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Van Leeuwen New Store Development team
  • Develop scoop shop designs that reflect the Van Leeuwen brand experience with a focus on operational needs, equipment and seating layouts, material selections and integrated signage
  • Track New Store Opening deadlines and deliverables to ensure projects are completed on time, to specification, and within budget.
  • Assist with project kick-off, coordinating LOD, Workletter, Survey, Due Diligence, etc. to align development strategy 
  • Collaborate across internal departments including Operations, Marketing, Supply Chain, R&D, and Accounting teams.
  • Create schematic plans, details, renderings to solve challenges and keep projects moving forward
  • Maintain brand book with standard FFE specifications and details
  • Provide clear design communication to key external partners including Real Estate, Architect of Record, MEP Engineer(s), General Contractors with clear and consistent direction regarding overall goals/objectives
  • Review design development and construction drawings to ensure they meet Van Leeuwen brand standards
  • Procure and coordinate the delivery of owner supplied FFE items
  • Approve vendor quotes and shop drawings with a focus on lead times, value and brand standards
  • Identify opportunities for timeline improvements and construction cost savings
  • Partner with external vendors and consultants while strengthening relationships
  • Research new and innovative materials and fixtures to support the design evolution of our brand

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in architecture, interior design, construction management, or similar field
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in a similar role; restaurant design experience preferred
  • A passion for brand design & ice cream
  • A positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team, with the ability to manage independent workload
  • A desire to learn, grow, and develop professionally
  • Very strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to multitask
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop) and Excel
  • Technical knowledge of materials and construction methods
  • Experience with G Suite (Google Drive, Docs, etc.) is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Available to travel at least 15% - 20% of the time

Compensation & Benefits

$75,00.00 - 85,000.00 annual compensation depending on experience, paid weekly

The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held.
