About VEIR

Giving everyone in the world access to clean, reliable, affordable energy will require substantial expansion of global electricity transmission networks. VEIR is developing a new generation of High Temperature Superconductor (HTS)-based transmission lines, enabling long distance, reliable, low loss, cost–effective power transfer in far smaller right–of–ways. VEIR’s innovations overcome the main barriers to transmission expansion, enabling the world to access the very lowest cost renewable power.


The Role

VEIR is seeking a Construction Project Manager/Estimator to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and managing construction projects from business development inception to completion, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction management, estimating, and project management in the Power Utility or Data Center industry, with at least 8 years of relevant experience.

The ideal candidate for this role will have several years' experience in project management and hold an Engineering or Construction Management degree. Additionally, experience within the energy industry or with hyperscaler clients focused on power projects is preferred. Ideal candidates will bring estimating and/or site management best practices forward, sharing ideas and leading continuous improvement initiatives to allow VEIR to scale the Commercial Operations organization.

This person will report to the Director of Commercial Operations and Global Projects. The person in this role can be based in our office in Woburn, MA, full-time or remote in Kansas City, MO, traveling to the Woburn office periodically. The person in this role should expect to travel 25% or more of the time depending on business and project needs.


In the first three months, you will...
  • Get fully integrated with VEIR’s organizational structure, key stakeholders, and company culture.
  • Familiarize with ongoing projects, internal processes, and ERP/construction software systems (e.g., NetSuite, InEight, Primavera)
  • Begin drafting detailed project plans, including schedules, budgets, resources, and risk management strategies for assigned projects
  • Begin generating estimates in coordination with application engineering for prospective clientele
  • Establish communication channels and collaboration frameworks between the project teams, contractors, and key stakeholders


In the first six months, you will...
  • Oversee and manage the execution of one or more projects, ensuring they are progressing according to plan, on schedule, and within budget, addressing and resolving any project challenges as they arise
  • Lead and coordinate project teams, including engineers, contractors, and subcontractors, ensuring effective communication and collaboration
  • Implement quality control measures to ensure all work complies with industry standards, project specifications, and safety regulations
  • Liaise with clients, vendors, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution
  • Monitor project budgets, control costs, and ensure that projects are completed within financial constraints


By the end of the first year, you will...
  • Successfully lead at least one major project to completion, ensuring it meets all time, budget, and quality goals
  • Led site management on at least one major project (three months or less in duration)
  • Prepare post-project evaluations and lessons learned for continuous improvement in future projects
  • Take ownership of continuous improvement initiatives within the project management framework to help VEIR scale effectively
  • Actively contribute to scaling VEIR’s Commercial Operations organization by refining project management and estimating processes, supporting ERP implementation, introducing improvements, and driving operational efficiencies


To be successful in this role...
  • You have 8+ years of experience in project management, estimating and/or construction management with an emphasis on power systems projects (substations, distribution, transmission, data centers)
  • You have an Engineering or a Construction Management degree
  • You are experienced in estimating and schedule methodologies and software
  • You are experienced in managing pursuits and subcontractors, leading cost estimation and schedule development
  • You are able to influence clients and influence internal teams to drive to goals and achieve deadlines/best outcomes
  • You are able to scale and grow business volume and improve operations
  • You are a self-starter who can navigate and make difficult decisions with minimal input from leadership
  • You have a strong knowledge of business systems and ERP/EVM/construction software (Microsoft Office, Oracle, NetSuite, Ecosys, InEight, and Timberline)
  • You are willing and able to travel regularly, meeting customers where they are, both domestically and internationally
