Job Description:

The Veteran Certification Specialist, in conjunction with the Assistant Registrar for Veteran Services, serves as an expert on the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (VA) policies and certification procedures for educational benefits. This newly created position in the Office of the University Registrar will assist in completion of accurate, efficient, and compliant VA benefit certifications.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the administration of federal and state benefits for eligible students.
  • Process certifications for the VA.
  • Assist in the development of timely and accurate reports required by the VA and other external organizations.
  • Understand and interpret VA regulations and policies.
  • In coordination with the Assistant Registrar for Veteran Services, remain up to date with changing federal and state legislation impacting veterans.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to comprehend complex rules and policies.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, while maintaining positive collaborative relationships.
  • Associates degree or significant work experience in a relevant field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience researching and interpreting Veterans Affair policies and procedures to ensure certification compliance.
  • Experience working with student records.
  • Experience with Veterans Affairs VAONCE certification reporting systems, and WEAMS - certifying Veterans Affairs education benefits chapters 30, 31, 33, 35, 1606, and 1607.
  • School Certifying Official (SCO) experience strongly preferred

Salary Information:

Salary commensurate with experience up to a budget max of $35,000 - $45,000
