Job Description
Position Summary:
Leads and manages NRECA’s programs of political engagement, including the political action committee, grassroots, grasstops and youth programs. Directs the membership outreach activities to support these programs. Manages and guides a team of professionals engaged in a range of activities supporting the political programs of the association. Develops and implements strategies that realize effective, dynamic and creative advocacy tools which support NRECA and our member cooperatives public policy objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Develops and guides the strategic direction of NRECA’s political engagement activities, including the political action committee, grassroots, grasstops, and youth programs, on behalf of America’s electric cooperatives.

Collaborates with the SVP and VPs in Government Relations the Communications Department and other internal stakeholders, designing and directing the organization's political programs, advocacy tools and related activities.

Builds, develops and manages a team of professionals focused on the development and utilitzation of political advocacy tools to include: political action committee, grassroots, grasstops, and youth programs.

Ensures alignment of political affairs programming with NRECA advocacy priorities and strategic plans.

Oversees, plans and coordinates the political activities necessary to support advocacy on public policy matters of importance to American’s electric cooperatives.

Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with statewide associations, NRECA Members, and other stakeholder coalitions.

Ensures the growth and health of America’s Electric Cooperatives PAC.

Oversees the continued development of Voices for Cooperative Power, the NRECA-led grassroots platform for America’s Electric Cooperatives.

Works directly with member cooperatives, using up-to-date and best practice methods to assist with recruitment, education and training activities necessary to build and maintain a robust grasstops network of advocates for the electric cooperative program.

Participates in the development of issue advocacy communications for use by NRECA, statewide organizations and member cooperatives.

Serves as a trustworthy steward to manage the budgets that support political engagement programming.

Travels to NRECA sponsored events, to provide outreach and support of the membership and to attend stakeholder organization events.

Qualifications
Formal Education Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Business, Communications or related field.
Advanced Degree preferred.
Experience and Certifications Required:

10 or more years of experience in political, grassroots, campaign, advocacy work

5 or more years of experience managing a high-performing, results-oriented team
-
Experience in the electric utility industry preferred.

Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, with a diverse membership, employees and/or vendors in a clear and precise manner.

Ability to use Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point) and to operate various office equipment such as personal computer, copier, printer, fax machine or other job-related equipment.

Ability to provide service excellence by building relationships, being resourceful, responsive and respectful.
