Job Description:

The VP, Home Loans Operations Strategy is responsible for overseeing the operations of Discover Home Loans, a multi-billion dollar mortgage business. This includes providing strategic and tactical direction for operational activities to deliver industry-leading customer service and experience, improve and streamline process efficiency, and ensure strong controls for the operations, spanning acquisition and servicing. The VP also oversees major 3rd party relationships, including our mortgage subservicer and other service providers to achieve business growth and improvement initiatives. Importantly, as a member of the Discover Home Loans leadership team, the VP works closely and collaboratively with field operations, marketing, credit risk, finance, business risk, legal, compliance, and technology to ensure the success of the business overall.

Responsibilities:

• People management
  • Builds and maintains an effective culture for achieving goals and managing risks
  • Recruits, develops, and retains strong teams
  • Encourages sharing best practices across the organization
• Processes and controls
  • Continuously evaluates and strengthens operational processes and controls to provide best-in-class customer experience and regulatory compliance
  • Identifies and implements opportunities to simplify, standardize, automate, and improve unit cost
• Origination and Servicing Operations Strategy
  • Develops and implements strategies and across mortgage originations and servicing to achieve key operational metrics
  • Ensures operational readiness for new initiatives and marketing forecasts
  • Provides strategic direction across several large third-party relationships and internal partners

Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or Economics
• 10+ years of experience in strategy, analytics, financial services, consumer, or related
• In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, 12+ years of experience in strategy, analytics, financial services, consumer, or related

Preferred Qualifications

If we had our say, we’d also look for:

• Master’s degree in Business, Finance, or Economics
• 12+ years of experience in strategy, analytics, financial services, consumer, or related
• 7-10 years of experience in operations/operations strategy (mortgage lending preferred), including process design and improvement
• Strong ability to understand and apply technology
• Lean/Six Sigma expertise a plus
